Its all about money. How deep are your pockets?
the 20b will make a easier 500hp than a 13b but if its 500 you're after then why even bother with a 20b. A complete 500hp 13b package will cost you less than a 20b long block. Boy save youself some money and stress, go with a 13b... 20b's are very defferent and require alot more attention & detail to make them work the way they suppose to.

BTW nice pic of Bajjie's 1200

welcome to the board.

it all comes down to budget. if you don't have the skills to do most of the work yourself, then the cost of a 20B conversion will increase very quickly.

if you're looking for 500HP, i'd say stick with the 13B. though it's not cheap, it's still cheaper and you'll more than likely have a running car in less time.

of course it's true. it's 50% more displacement, which equals more power given the same turbo and boost level or in more useful rhetoric, you'll make the same power on less boost.

as for your reliability question, you'll get whatever you put into it. choose your builder, fuel, ignition, engine management and tuner very, VERY carefully.
