2001 Type RS idle problem

Hi Everyone.

I have recently imported a 2001 Type RS from Japan. After breaking in and some modifications (HKS suction kit, HKS cat back Hiper exhaust & front pipe), I was driving in heavy traffic and suddenly idle drops and becomes rough, making the car very jerky at low rpms (everything is fine above 2000 rpm).

Afterwards, the problem got worse and idle is sometimes as low as 500 - 600 rpm (warmed, without AC or electrical load). When I blip the throttle, the rpm needle will shoot up normally but it will stall a few times on its way down to idle.

I have checked all vacuum hoses and they all seemed to be tightly in place. I changed the spark plugs and it was slightly better for only a few miles of driving.

Can anybody help and tell me what is wrong? This is my first RX7 and I really don't know anything about it. Ideas and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

Many idle problems can be attributed to leaky intake manifold gaskets, but on your new car I don't claim any knowledge. I'd do a search on idle problems, find some info and go from there.
