So I've recently rebuilt my 1987 13B NA and I finally have it back in the engine bay. But it's not starting, and this post covers a few things so I figured I'd put it in general the compression, is good, the fuel and air are good. My trailing spark plugs are not firing even with a new coil/igniter so I'm assuming it's a wiring problem which I realize is an entire topic on its own, but I know that the car doesn't necessarily need the trailing plugs to run, and was wondering if that applied to first time start up as well. The only other thing I can think of is the dash isn't currently in the car and I know there are electrical connections within it and I'm going to be putting it back in, but I was wondering if those connectors had anything to do with ignition/ startup. My ECU is good as far as I know, although I'm not entirely sure on the procedure to use to test it. The car has started before the rebuild only 2 times and really terrible thanks to a destroyed rear housing and rotor. But that's fixed now and I have compression so I'm just baffled as to why it would start then, with no trailing spark, a bad rotor/housing, and low compression, but not now with 3 of those issues now fixed. This is my first rebuild so I can only assume I've missed something. I have empty connectors at the front of the engine bay that I have no idea what they are or what they go to, they are all female, and we're not connected when I got the car and wiring isn't exactly my forte. I know that was a lot of questions so any feedback is appreciated. Thanks

 

trailing doesn't fire during crank and it's easy to flood a new engine, are the plugs coming out wet? have you tried double checking the CAS was stabbed correctly? a lot of times the injectors are the issue, either seized or the clips not getting a good connection, so try starter fluid.

 

thanks for the knowledge and advice, CAS should be good but I can check again, I tested the injectors before hand and they both work, primary and secondary. I'll try starter fluid tonight. I'm definitely getting gas, the plugs come out wet.

 

new rebuilds can be a PITA to start sometimes, like above said, starter fluid, and putting some oil in the plug holes too can help also
