Yeah I figured you meant 52, since a 32 is almost a full inch smaller in diameter.

Ok, so let's try this again...if I wanted one that fit in the t-stat housing, and wanted to use the OEM gasket, what year/model car would I have them reference at the parts store?

I figured the stock one was 52mm as soon as I put the gasket around the 54mm one and it was just ever so slightly too large to fit in the housing. Again though, it fits just fine without the o-ring, and I made my own gasket. I don't see a problem with just leaving it alone. Do you?

Oh really? I'm assuming 65 deg C, so that's probably around what, ~150 deg F? Where would one acquire one of these thermostats?

Just curious, with a lower temperature t-stat, the motor will take longer to reach it's operating (peak) temperature, but it won't necessary make the car run cooler right? Since that should be the radiator/fans job, and that will remain the same.

It will open sooner, thus diverting the coolant through the radiator to be cooled sooner. We'll see if it makes any difference come summertime...:P

Again though, as stated in some other threads, it won't save the car from overheating if it's already having overheating problems...

I don't know if it's true of the rotary, but no t-stat can often be a bad idea. With no thermostat in place there is no restriction in coolant flow, and therefore the coolant doesn't spend enough time passing through the radiator. The end result is that is passes through too quickly for effective heat transfer to take place, and thus leads to overheating.

yes the thermostats work (and no issues on my fd but a lower one sounds like a good idea) but when i had the vett and i was in the mountains the car would get hot and so i took out the thermostat and it work for me i had replaced it twice and it kept getting stuck so i just ran the car with out one and no issues arose after that

Never run your rotary engine without the t-stat. Without it there is nothing to direct coolant to the radiator. You will burn up your engine.

I finally got around to deal with the thermostat. I removed the one currently installed, it is NTC 82C. I compared it to the 160C universal one I had purchased and noticed differences in length not to mention quality. So I decided to keep the old one and drill 4 holes along the jiggle pin side just like someone suggested in this forum. Works perfectly! Dropped about 10 degrees and adjusted the fans to kick on at 180C. The fans are not kicking ON as often and should last longer. I would not install any universal t-stat. The only one I was considering was the xactstat from Stant (forget the PN now) but they only come in OEM temp. So if anyone is looking for a good OEM quality replacement readily available and affordable this could be a good choice.
