13B Engine Identification

Trying to identify the specific 13B in my 1992 Maxton Rollerskate. Block markings are "RE92" and "A343498". Engine is original to the car with a Racing Beat intake and Dellorto carbs. Every search I run for RE92 comes back with Bridgestone tires. 😒

the old Mazda reman engines had stamps like that in the front rotor housing, you get the date and some kind of serial number
does not tell you the type of engine, need more pics. from the pic its a 74-78 13B, but to narrow it down we'd need to see the part where it says MAZDA

Are these the numbers used to ID housings? Where can I find this info?

no, and that kind of doesn't look like the Mazda reman stamp.
also since there are 5 housings, the stamp may or may not mean anything

You specifically asked a previous poster to make sure the Mazda badge was visible within the pic. So, whats the number? Where are you getting this info?

so for a 74-80 housing, they all have ribs, but the Font of the Mazda logo changes depending on the housing, 74-75 has that big font, 76-77 is a small font with a pad that says Mazda automobiles, and then then 78-80 the casting where the word automobiles would go is blank. but that is only the one housing, and there are 5 that make an engine.

after 1981 the logo changes again, but then basically stays the same until 2011, so it stops being a good way to ID an engine

its a 12A, but 81+ is like this

the stamp on yours means it was rebuilt by someone, but Mazdas stamp is not on the logo, and its got a date/part number and then the serial number, that one looks different to me?
the stamping is what Mazda used to use from ?? to sometime in the mid 90's, after that they silicon a blue tag on the front cover

Thx for clarification. Is there anyway to ID the 6-port NA housings? This housing is on an engine that has a Holley carb sitting on top of a supercharger... It seems to run and start easily but owner has said he can't get it to idle below 1,100+ rpm...

yep! just to back up a step, Mazda made lots of changes, both big and small, and what they changed also changed. it becomes that identifying an engine becomes a series of if/then statements as you narrow it down. i've though about making a post but the list gets really long, and then people build engines that aren't factory combinations on top of that, so its tricky.

all of the irons have a casting mark, or letter to ID them, this one is a D casting, which is S5 T2. S4 T2 is a G. it looks like S4 NA is an E. (actually it looks like an S4 NA engine is E,E,E)

for the Center Iron the S4 NA is the easy one, its got a freeze plug under the intake ports, and the EGR on top. Casting letter is on the front of the oil filler casting, probably an E to match.

if its not that one it then could be any other FC

the Casting mark on the rear iron is behind the clutch, so its not useful, we must use other means. easiest is look at the top mount starter holes
its not a great picture, but see the two bolt holes on the top? one of those gets deleted for the S5 engines to clear the intake.

and belatedly, this is all assuming its an FC engine. if you have an earlier engine, which we can tell from the rotor housings, the FC housings get shrunk on top, Mazda reduced coolant volume in the places where they could

compare with an 81-85 engine

and then if we go really old,

hope that helps!
