[GarageAlpha] Titanium Parking Brake and Shift **** - "MAZDASPEED" Style

I've always been a fan of all (most?) things MAZDASPEED. But as we all know there are just certain items that are all but unobtainable - the MAZDASPEED Titanium Parking Brake and Shift **** being two prime examples. Sure, they pop up once in a while, but at EXORBITANT prices. I get it, you're "paying for the name" - but $600 for a used parking brake? I got a BETTER idea! Let's make them - but BETTER!

What you're looking at is our take on the MAZDASPEED Titanium Parking Brake and Shift ****. The Parking Brake is for the most part 1:1. It's fit and finish is basically perfect and includes the parking brake handle AND release button - both in GR2 titanium.

The Titanium Shift **** is slightly different - we started with the original MAZDASPEED **** and quickly realized it was small. Like, comically small. So we increased the size by 50% while staying true to the look. The increased size ALSO led to an added benefit - an increased weight. 375 grams to be exact. While when you read it, it might not seem like a big deal, but it feels GREAT in the hand and provides more positive shifts when installed. Oh, and install is fully threaded - no messing with set screws or inserts. Twist and you're done.

On the topic of install, the OEM parking brake handle DOES need to be removed... with a razor blade. There's no two ways around it that I've discovered - but after that - install is straight forward. Install the button, grease the exposed assembly, and put those muscles to work (a vise also helps). Alternatively, you can wrap the top of the handle in many, many layers of towels and smack it with a rubber mallet a few times... not graceful - but it works. For any of you not wanting to sacrifice your OEM parking brake - I *do* have some cores available while supplies last.

I have a question regarding the installation of the e-brake handle because I couldn't find a posting that had documented the process in detail.

Is this an accurate summary of the process?
- Disassemble center console and remove tunnel cover
- Cut away all stitching on factory handle with a razor blade
- Peel away OEM leather handle from metal 'core' of e-brake lever
- Replace OEM push button with replacement GA button (I presume this swap is straight forward once you see how the OEM button is mounted on the lever arm?)
- "Slide" GA handle over metal 'core' of e-brake lever (use of a vice and/or hammer is recommended because fitment is super tight so getting the handle seated on the lever arm is difficult?)
- Reassemble all
- Beer

Ya' know - I've probably sent this e-mail a dozen times... I *should* get it added to the website.

You basically hit the nail on the head.

The Titanium Button is a 1:1 replacement for the OEM button. Just unscrew the OEM and thread on the titanium one. DO THIS FIRST before you install the handle. I've installed the handle before the button, and it's fine... but WAY easier to do the button first.

Installing the actual eBrake handle is straight forward but WILL require some grease (lubricant and elbow). I just used PB Blaster to give it some lubrication - but I'm sure anything would be fine (WD40, lithium grease, etc). After that it's muscle OR the express route is wrapping the top of the eBrake is multiple layers of towels (I used microfiber folded back and forth 4-5 times) and hitting it will a rubber mallet.

All in, it should take less than 10 minutes to get the OEM handle off and the Titanium one on.
