Question Best suspension setup for me? (FD)

I've always been a power guy so this suspension stuff is new to me. In a few weeks I'll have finished up all the power adding mods that I have planned for my FD (till I get bitten by the need again...) and was planning on turning my attention to freshening up my worn suspension. Everything is stock and as far as I know orginal from the factory on my 93 FD with 60K miles. It's mostly a weekend pleasure car with occasional trips down the 1/4 mile. I'll probably never auto-x and maybe do a MADS type event once or twice. So with all that in mind what would be a good setup for me? I know I have some bushing issues in the rear cause I do get clunking, and I have a little bird chirping so I'm assuming there's at least one wheel bearing that will need replacing too. I had thought of getting jimlabs bushings, but I think they will be overkill for my application. Beefing up the launching capabilities is high on the list of priorities too so I was looking at M2 and Pettit's trailing arm/toe link/launch kit options. When it comes to springs, shocks, coilovers, etc I'm clueless so advice would be appreciated in those regards. TIA!

Wow, thanks for that excellent post Gordon. I'm the type of person that needs to learn all about a system before I do an upgrade on it. I don't just slap on the bolt ons and see what happens. I want to know what it is I'm changing and why, and how that will effect the whole picture. Suspension tuning and geometery is all greek to me, but I'm learning thanks to posts like yours and some others who helped over in the 3rd gen section. I've done some research on what each component does, now I just need to figure out what I'm going to replace them with. Thanks again!

JIC Magic or ZEAL suspension kit

I have my JIC on the way, My friend's S13 with SR20det has ZEAL on his, handle like your dream, with in trunk damper 6 way adjustble. Other S13 has JIC in there. Haven't heard from him yet, but my friend said his car drifting better on those Tokico.

You have an FD, then you want the top sh#t. In Japan, there is no more spring and shock set up any more. Also and good set of spring and shock are going to be $800 to $900 anyway, and are not rebuidble. The JIC and ZEAL are rebuidble and also you don't have to change your sprint rate when you lower your car. They are shock height adjustble too.

If you want to know more, call my other friend who own a white 94 rx-7 that works at a shop Let me know if you want the number. I will post up his car soon, please give some advice

peace
Shingo

Got the same plus reinforcement. Despite the struggle to tune my car since it's resurrection, the handling is friggin outstanding.

I can put the illumina's on softest or hardest. Yeah, there's a difference in 'wave motion' on highway but with those springs and sway bar no matter what the settings, that car is on rails and flat. I have the front strut brace and CF rear replacement sway bar but I doubt they way in that strong compared to the rest. OUTSTANDING in my novice opinion for street use. My suspension is complete for my purposes (How many times can you say that about anything ?)

Racing Beat has a carbon fiber rear sway bar? I haven't heard of that before?

Thanks for all the replies guys, I have got a lot to learn about suspension setups. I've got all sorts of clunks and creaks and I want to get those sorted out too.

JIC suspension comes in street kit form, I f you need a special set up ( like drift or racing) we can set up suspension but that must be made clear when you order it from your local dealer. If you purchase a kit from ARD then you can specify that you have a special need and JIC USA can do it. All set ups are different for grip driving vs. drifting vs. street set up. all require different dampening rates and spring rates as well.
