FD3S Stock BOVs

After owning the car for almost a month now...Today's the first day I heard the BOVs...lol

Anyways, they sound kinda loud for stock.....IS there anyway I can adjust them to be louder?

Thanks for your help in advance!

Cheers

Remove the 2 larger tubes connecting the BOV's and the airbox. DONT remove anything else though on them though.

I vented my straight to the atmosphere, and I'm with the orginal post. I would love for it to be louder. Of course that's the whole reason I bought a turbo car. I love the turbo engaging, and the blow off of the excess pressure between gears It makes me smile after every gear. LOL......

Here's a pic.. basically, u wanna remove the lil 1" hose from that brown bov to the airbox.. and then plug up the hole in your airbox with a rubber door stopper or something..

theres no procedure...
you just pull off the hose going to the air box, remove the 2 inch piece of hose between the airbox and the BOV and vwalla...

Oh and dont forget to cap the hole in the air box.. rx7s dont like unfiltered air. Most people use rubber stopers, but im lazy. I went to my house hold recycling bin and used a 2 liter soda bottle cap. I left the 2 in piece of hose attached to the box and screwed the cap on the side where the BOV used to be. I then wrapped the thing in tons of Black Duckt tape and used the original clamps to secure everything..

kind of getto but it works.. Now my car sounds like the cosworth in that movie "get away in Stockholm 2" oh ya..

You can remove Both, the longer hose is for the Charge Relief Valve (CRV) and will vent during the Pre-Spool phase of the primary/secondary turbo transition.

I just did this mod and it sounds alright....a little bit too plasticky of a sound...but at least its free. The only thing I wanna know is what happens when water gets in there...I know it blows MOST of it out but if even a few drops get back through the intake how bad can that be? There will definitely be water that gets in there when it rains.

do you drive without a hood?

I can't imagine water getting in there, but maybe I am wrong.

Do you have an aftermarket/modified intake on your car? If somethings making a hissing noise while you're accelerating and you have an aftermarket intake then you describe sounds like the turbos spooling. If this hissing happens between shifts or when you let off of the accelerator pedal then it could be the BOV just doing it's thing,

Do you have a boost gauge? If you're still getting good boost then I wouldn't worry about it, another thing that hissing could be if it happens under acceleration is either a BOV stuck open or a boost leak.

Yeah, thats normal.. it'll hiss like that as you're not accelerating quickly.. at wot it shouldn't hiss and should release a quick pssssh noise as u let off the throttle..

While we are on this topic I was wondering if anyone could tell me the noise I am hearing. at anything before the the second turbo kicks in my BOV (blitz) makes a kind of double fluttering sound and when I get on it at higher Rpm it will make a very nice psshhh...
I have DP, CB, RE intake, Blitz BOV, and Blitz Boost Control.

for the person with the pettit air intake= the crv and the bov hoses go to a piping unit about 2'' down from where the 2 go into one pipe cut there with a hacksaw now it's open vent. Now cap the bottom open pipe( Copper cap pipe from hardware store)

Hey guys, I just did this mod (to the BOV line only) and I like the way it sounds. I also accidentaly dropped one of the clamps and had to jack the car up, which after owning an RX-7, I am pretty good at. Thanks for the instructions. Josh

the whoosing at 2800 or so is the crv letting the second turbo spool. the crv i left connected to the airbox so yo udont gett a russhing air noise, only air noise for the BOV. so just disconect the one close to the airbox for the release when shifting.

is duct tape strong enough to plug my box (duct tape is my answer for everything!)
and is there any reason I can't/shouldn't shorten the hose leading to the BOV?

this is great info though... I miss the sound from the Apexi intake

I did this mod tonight... sounds MUCH better!

found 7/8 id plugs for furniture legs at the local home depot. those and a couple of worm clamps and I was good to go.
