Question building an all around system for a 1st gen

its time to do some serious upgrading to my sound! i'm not into competition at all, i just want good, CLEAN sound. so far, i've got an alpine deck(cant' think of the model)cassette with changer controls, alpine 12 disc changer, a 10 inch bazooka tube...... and everything else gets chucked for new stuff! currently i have jensens in the kickpanels and pioneers in the back.... but both seem to really suck. i really want to add component speakers to the front. for now, i'll have the tweets in the airvent, and the mid in the kick panel, but eventually i want door pods. its been so long since i've looked at anything audio, so i'm kinda poking around in the dark to get good stuff at a good price. i've got my eye on some focal components(130 h). are these any good? i found them for about the same price as a set of JBL component speakers($170). i also need an amp, preferrable 4 channel. i had an alpine mrp-f200 in mind. any suggestions on some good quality 5 1/4 components and an amplifier would be most appreciated! btw... i'm trying to keep it all under $500, under $400 is even better.

Any respectable component speakers, ie not POS, are going to set you back close to $350. I personally think, for clean sound $500 is a little unrealistic. So I guess that is a choice you have to make, POS sound, or a realistic budget.

focals are POS? i've heard that they were quite nice and i found a set for $150. this is just my everyday system. it'll never see any kind of SQL meter at all. but seeing as i bought my car for $700, i don't see spending $2000 on and audio system as an option. so any suggestions on a setup with good bang-for-the-buck?

Greg theres an infinate number of choices you can go with... I can get Pioneer, Kenwwod, MB Quart, Rockford Fosgate, DHD, power Acoustic, Lanzar, Boston, Pyle, Cerwin vega, Infinity, MTX and many many others. For the bucks in a component set, id have to say either the Kenwood or the Pioneer, you looking at around $130/set. Now if you want Sound quality, NOT MUCH beats MB Quart, I can get (starting from cheapest to most expensive) Discus, premium, refernece and then the Q. But they are BIG bucks... The rockford fosgate P series isnt bad either.. Best thing to do is shop your local car audio shops, talk to friends and see what model numbers you want and then drop me an email. Ill get ya a price you will like

By the way i get good deals on stuff cuz I own my own side biz plus I install professionally...

MIKE

PS by the way, I can get mb quart reference 5 1/4 set for $280 they retail for like $550

As far as a 4 channel amp same applies here, competetion is getting a little tough in the car stereo department now Pioneers GMX354 (40X4 RMS) for $150 is a sweet deal.. Good luck

Ebay is your friend when it comes to audio. I got an Alpine deck retail $400 for half that, RF Power series 5.25" retail about $450, i got them for half, and my RF p4004 amplifier was about $200, also half of retail. All in all it was about a grand with the rear 3-way speakers that I already had. the install cost me another $600 because I had door pods custom made. But if you can do that stuff yourself then it'll save you more
