500 H.P. Single Turbo Package at the RX7 Stores. Should I take the big plunge??

Greetings all,

Well. I have some money to throw away and I am
wondering if someone got this kit from the RX 7
stores. Jason ask $6310.00 US (Ouch!) and that
include the power FC with a front mount intercooller.

You may see the kit at:

http://www.rx7store.net/turbokits.htm

They claim 500HP. Do you thing its possible?

Please tell me what do you thing.

Serge

Hey Serge,
This is Jason from the RX-7 Store. I have sold the entire kit to a few people.

The H.P. is based on boost. Send me an e-mail if you have any questions.

Keep in mind you have to tune it too. One of the reasons 3rd gens have such a bad rep is that people just bolt on things and then things go 'poof'.

Make sure you have someone on your end that is experienced in tuning 3rd gens (not someone who says they've heard of them, or can tune a Supra 'real good'), and get the RX7 store package. Excellent price for waht you are getting.

Serge,

Personally I think that is a very good price for what you get...but there are some other variables you probably want to consider. And plan to keep the billfold WIDE OPEN If your motor is stock then add another $3000 to the $6k for a rebuild. I don't think anyone on this board would recommend trying to pump 450+ hp on a stock ported motor. Just doesn't work out well. Also, with the PFC you are limited to 17psi without their boost module thingy. Add another $500 for that. If your clutch is stock...better add another $900 for a lightweight flywheel and upgraded clutch disc/pressure plate. Not to mention once you get to those power levels (500 rwhp) you have to start worrying about **** breaking. KAAZ differential is another $800, and RP upgraded axles are $800. Traction? Better get some bigger meats...add atleast $2k for some bigger rims and some S03's. Oh, forgot about wheel hop. M2 trailing arms & toe links...$400. Might be a good idea to get some jimlab bushings also. Not to mention I wouldnt really want to drive a 500 hp stock suspension car. Strut bars, sway bars, coilovers....yikes, there goes another $2500....it never ends man....

Now this is all assuming your car is stock at the moment...which it might not be. Point is...sure you can get 500 hp for $6k...but if you want to keep that 500 hp for very long and do it right....be prepared to spend ALOT more

Good luck
Brad

Very good points!

With that kit XS does the Power FC tuning. 500 H.P. is a crank HP figure. Which would be low 400 RWHP.

if you do that serge, i will kill uou

seriously, if you want to go single, get the haltech, nobody is able to tune the PFC close to us but Magnus can tune the Haltech and i know a guy in Ottawa who is pretty good with it.

Hey if you have too much money, i would like to organize a groub buy on a kirk racing roll bar for people in quebec, how would you like that?

If you want to get the best bang for your buck, and run circles around vetts on the track, go with a good Coil over kit, and adjustable anti-sway bars. Upgrade you cooling system; radiator, and oil coolers so you can keep you car healthy when you finally start pumping up the engine. 6K, I could do a lot with that $$.

The kit that the store offers is definetly capable of the power but you are dealing with a rotary. Don't expect the 500 just like that.

Best bet would be to buy the kit and have the PFC dyno tuned. The PFC can't monitor the condition of your motor nor does it self adjust.

I've seen FDs with exact same set ups need different fuel and ignition settings....plus if you are on a stock motor no idea what condition it may be in.

The stock rear suspension will get torn up pretty quick with that much power.

Here's one thing to think about, serge:

Jason posted that the kit will get you in the 400 wheel hp range.

I just put down almost 370 on stock turbos, with very conservative tuning. Check out my sig to see all the mods I have to support that power level.

That's a great price for all you get (not trying to take away business from Jason ), but is it worth 30 extra wheel hp?

One last thing-- I wouldn't let XS get anywhere near your Power FC based on my experience.

Have a shop with a dyno, wideband air/fuel ratio meter, and (most importantly) a datalogit tune your power fc. I was lucky and was able to get my R1 to Dave at KD Rotary (in PA), who has all of the above. And now the car runs the best it has in 2 years.

Sending your power fc off to "tune by mail" is asking for a blown motor.

dont listen to him.this is what you do serge.yes he is somewhat right.definitely wideband tune it.apexi wouldnt have them as a tuner if they sucked.plus this is the first time ive heard anything bad about xs.what u do is run it through xs for 150 bucks.have them tunne it then take it to rx7 shop and wideband tune it.xs even lets u know that .they tell u they can only get it close, then they tell u that u have to fine tune it,just ask for shane.

Thats an over all good price for the ease of install but I am not too crazy about that shitty power FC. Its a good deal if you can get it with a haltech instead

The difference is that 370 is the MOST you're ever going to make out of those stock turbo's. But with this single turbo you could flow enough to make 500 at the wheels and still be effecient.
