I'm looking to get an air/fuel gauge for my car simply becuase I can't tell if it's rich or lean and I'm gonna end up killing the thing. Problem is, I've got no job right now since I'm a full time student, so I can't afford a $200 o2 sensor and $200 gauges. So is there a cheaper way? I don't want to make my own cause I hate electronics and break everthing electrical I touch, and is there a way around the expensive wide band sensors? Thanks

 

There is a way.
Just get a digital voltmeter, (like, 20 bucks or less)
and hook it up to the stock 02 sensor., just attach a wire to the o2 wire at the ECU (under carpet on passenger side)
Check FC3S.com under How-to to get the proper wire.
Once hooked up, it will read 0- 1.00 volts. The closer to 1V, the richer it is.
Stoich (ideal A/F mixture) is about .4v (only for light cruise)
Full throtle should be from .75-.9v Any less, and you're too lean.
Light criuse will fluctueate between .2 and .5
Should read 0 when decell.
A word of advice, the stock sensor is NOT accurate at full throttle.... but it will tell you iff you are dangeroulsy lean or not.

I'm building a wideband right now because the stock sensor just isn't sensirtive enough to tune by.

 

any idea if you'd be able to rig up at least one extra one for a buddy in need? I'm not too sure about trying to take readings from my computer, cause like I said, I have a tendency to break everything electrical, but I might get a friend or three to come help me check it out. well I put a universal one in, and had to wire it to the existing wires, so I'll just tap in from under the engine bay. Thanks again man
