Spirit-R Wheels Weighed...Pics

I put a set of Spirt-R rims on the scale, and it seems they weigh just a bit more than the RG-Rs in the same size, coming in at an even 19lbs for the 17x8.5 rears with +50 offset. They are a Mazda custom offset (+50 front and rear) and have a very minimally sized lip (which was the look I was going for) . It seems they are different than the BBS RG-Rs only in that they are of a different offset and that they have 'FD' stamped on the inside (and of course the Mazda-logoed center caps).

I also got them mounted with Pirellis and took some pictures.

Very nice wheels and car. Did you get those from Jesse Lau or JT-imports? How much did they set you back (if you don't mind)?

Aristo,

Damn, that looks gorgeous! The FD wheels have higher caliper clearances, which is why the lip is shallower (which looks great). Are yours 8.5 wide all around? What size Pirellis did you get? 245/40-17s? Asimmetricos? Great looking ride!

Thanks for the comments guys,

The wheels are 8 inches wide up front, and 8.5 rear. I was able to find them slightly used on some Japanese used wheel company website, and had my Japanese officemate do a bank transfer to the seller's account...then arranged a pickup through a heavy air freight shipping company..in total a PIA, but I got them for 1/3 what the go for new.

Yeah! anyone have an idea how much they cost new or like new in Japan?

I have a buddy over there now, he'll be there all of October... maybe he can ship me some.

Man, the more I see those, the more I like them. Maybe when the go-fast parts and keep-the-car-from-overheating parts are installed I'll be thinking about them

I believe they go for nearly $3000 new in Japan from the dealer, but used sets seem to show up on auctions in Japan once in a while and sell for about 150,000 yen (about $1200)

Damn, that's a nice looking color car and the rims add the finishing touch to it! Are they gun-metal? I can't tell

Aristo,

What kind of suspension modifications do you have? How much lower is your car sitting?

Thanks,

Victor

Victor,

In the pic, the car is sitting on a set of HKS Hiperdamper IIs,at the preset height. The front is a little lower than it used to be with my old Eibachs, and the rear is quite a bit more dropped than with the Eibachs. I would say that the car sits at the same height as one on Racing Beat Springs, and just a tad higher than it would with H&Rs.

Optimus, the wheels are what they call black diamond (DBK) finish and look straight silver straight on, and somewhat like a gunmetal from certain side angles....part of the effect I think comes from the fact that the areas inside between the spokes is 'smoked' with a somewhat non-even coat of dark finish.

Thanks for the info Aristo. I was thinking of getting some gunmetal Volks but I REALLY like the Spirit Rs. I'll see if my buddy can find some (used$$$) in Japan and ship them.

Thanks for posting

Victor
