I just had the craziest thing ive ever seen happen

So I pluggeed my power fc commander in which I just got today, and my fans keep going on and off. All the sudden when I try to start my car it cant even turn the motor over... why? BECAUSE ITS FILLED WITH FUEL. I had FUEL coming out my intakes. I popped off the intercooler connection and it must have poured out at least a gallon.

WTF IS GOING ON. I remember reading a thread on this...

On the other thread someone had a fuel injector stick open I believe. Course seems like the power would need to be on so the pump could pump enough fuel to do that. I doubt the fuel rails and lines have enought fuel to do that without the pump remaining on to push....could be wrong though

I'd call the place you purchased the PFC from and get their opinion. Sounds like the problem may be with the PFC. Just my 2cents. Good Luck!

Pull the spark plugs, and drain the combustion chambers. Obviously, make sure you don't have any open flames nearby, and cover the plug caps with clean rags and stow them out of the way.

Then sort out your PFC problems...

Well, I personally think I grounded an injector somehow. Cuz it happened with the ignition on, so that would explain the fuel pump being on, and I was adjusting the position of the plugged in power FC. I might have possibly not cut the pins well enough , so I cut the wires too. So right now I drained all the fuel out of the car ( minus the gas tank obviously), and im letting the whole thing air out for a few hours before It ry starting it again.

You say that your commander won't light up...that really looks like a problem with your PFC, not necessarily any other component. If you still have your stock ECU, try putting that back in to see how things go. If not, try and borrow a PFC with similar maps and go from there. Gotta keep eliminating various pieces as problems dude.

damn man, thats weird. I would def try and meet up and help ya out but im totally clueless on the situation. But i agree with some others saying its probably a problem with the PFC seeing as it isnt lighting up and is probably malfunctioning.

bump. please anyone with ideas help. Im pretty sure its not a leaky injector. I finally got it to start with the stock ECU, but the wires are cut so it idles and runs like ****, but it cleaned it out. Not quite enough though as it flooded again . Ive used two seperate power FC's and both couldnt start it ( since it was flooded) but when I connect them the fans turn on. Isnt that saying its not connected right?

ugh I dont understand, it was working fine for a few days and now its tweaking out.

I just re-read that thread. His problem:

It was just a bad injector, once the ignition was on, it just open fully and just *dumped* fuel into the manifold. We swapped the injectors just to make sure the 'leak' followed the injector and not the wiring, just in case.

New one is on the way...

Mike (FormulaMazda) Ben and I thank you for your help. (Its Mike's car that had the issue)

well, as far as I can tell its not flooding anymore..

When I have power to the power FC the fans turn on... and they stay on untill I pull off the negative battery terminal.

I just tried to start it and it just sits there cranking sounding like its igniting but not starting the motor. I pulled a plug afterwords and its almost completely dry with the smallest hint of fuel on it..

this is so depressing....

Well I figured something out. It has to do somthing with the wiring as the commander does not light up when the key is turned to the on position, and teh fans are still coming on. Anyone have any ideas?

Power FC is Supposed to be Plug and Pray, but when you mess with the fuel and air on a rotary it's imperative that you have help, from someone who knows what they're doing... either a mechanic or even better a tuner... Power FC is not a Click a couple of menus and Blammo !!! 300 HP box.... get the wireing checked, and get it tuned BEFORE you blow a seal ! I blew a seal driving a box that was tuned on my now dead '94 and running it on my '93 with IDENTICAL mods... Intake and Exhaust... and I wan't even pushing things... I hit a lean cell and it blew... get your Power FC tuned.... SOON !

No it has nothing to do with how the pfc is tuned that it wont start up. How woudl the base map not start it. It has nothing to do with it.

I'd double check all the wires and pins you cut and make sure you didnt pull the wrong one somewhere.

Is there ANYTHING at all you messed with around the time this started to happen??? Other than plug in the pfc.

I wonder if somehow you ignition switch is messed up and when you turn the key to the on position just right it activates the pfc like its cranking the engine (hense dumping fuel) but since the key is not actually turned all the way the starter doesnt turn the engine and it just sits there filling with fuel.

Well, it seems as if the PFC shorted out for some reason wehn I plugged the commander in the first time.

I was looking through the commander, put it down and went to put the PFC back in. Once I did I smelled this burning smell and then fuel and teh whole fiasco started. Then the commander wouldnt go on anymore and everything went to hell.

Jason at rx-7 store has been really great helping me so far and is calling apexi as I type this. hopefully I can get this situation taken care of.

Burning smell? That's a pretty big tip off. That would've been the first thing I mentioned. Did you smell it inside or outside the cabin? I'm thinking this is a wiring issue, like others have said. But it could be a bad PFC frying itself.

If you're lucky, you only burned out the PFC, or it was bad to begin with. Tracing down an electrical gremlin like this can take a lot of time and/or $$$ if you pay someone else to do it.

It's also possible the a malfunctioning (and possibly improperly installed) PFC powered on the FP and injector(s).

I forgot about the burning smell. And see, everything was wired perfectly as the power fc was working for about a week before this all happened. But the second I installed the commander in... it all tweaked out which is why im thinking the PFC did not like the commnader for some reason and everything just went nuts.

see, what makes me think its not my harness is one, the commander doesnt work with my PFC, but works perfectly fine with my friends.

Two, my stock ecu runs the car, it doesnt idle well at all due to the cut wires and no air pump, but it boosts fine, and runs perfectly fine past idleing.

three, it used to work, then stopped working when I did nothing but plug the commander in.

Four, This problem happened to two people on the forum. one was due to a stuck injector ( yet mine runs on the stock ecu fine )
and the others was due to a short in the PFC.

Everything points towards it does it not?

But even so, how do I go about testing my wiring harness?
