Corbeau A4 Seat Install

(A) The instructions did not mention how to adapt the Mazda female seat belt harness to their adapter. Remove the Mazda piece from the stock seat right side. Screw out/off it's attaching bolt. Cut off the plastic cover. Hammer out flat the bracket that had bolted to the seat. Round off the sharp 90degree corners and edges of the side of their bracket that will face the seat, and to which the Mazda unit will bolt. Bolt the Mazda unit to their bracket at about 45 degrees forwards from vertical. Cut/grind off the bolt end where it protrudes. Bolt this completed piece in first. Mounts to the floor behind the right side of the seat. Push it as tight against the tunnel as possible.

(B) Their seat rail fits perfectly to the stock floor rail mounting points and to the seat. But, the seat front was too low for me. I placed spacer washers between the slider mechanism and seat bottom, and between slider and bracket. Raised it up about 1/4".

(C) The seat mounts too close to the door such that the shoulder area was slightly touching the side of the door when it was closed, and also hit the top edge of the window frame when tilted forward. Also see (D) below. I drilled a third set of mounting holes to the seat/floor mounting bracket so the slider mechanism sits about 3/8" more towards the trans tunnel. The shoulder area only hits the door now if the seat is way back too far for me.

(D) I have a 32" inseam, and need to move the seat "all the way" forward. If you have less, then you either have to extend the clutch pedal or modify the bracket where it attaches to the slider.

(E) The spring for the back tilt adjustment lever was so stiff, I replaced it with a softer one. Foreword and backwards adjustment of the seat is easy and the amount of change is about like stock. The tilt adjustment is bad! Moves too much per click and is not easy to tell when in the next slot.

(F) All in all after this, it does hold me better than the stock seat and the pedal engagements are actually better than stock. It is fine for me, but it will not fit others drives who are bigger or taller. I guess that is what you get for about $500, but it is the smallest seat I could fine and better seats have worse fitment problems.

Nice Chuck!

I was going to order those last year on a GB, but unfortunately it fell through. I'm still debating whether I'm going to have my leather seats re-finished or do the A4's.

Some pics would be nice too!

I did a search for dealers on the Corbeau website. Luckily the one for Houston is own by an old acquaintance. I ordered it through his store.

You can also email Spencer Bond of Corbeau at: sb@corbeau.com

He can help you with your order (especially if you want to have something special done like some foam removed from the seat so it's a little lower).

The problem with the FD (if you get one you'll see) is that most aftermarket seats will not fit. The few that do require quite a bit of work to get them in the car.

The Corbeau A4 seats are one of the few that don't require too much effort to install into the car. They do come in different colors, it just so happens Chuck picked blue for his car.

http://www.corbeau.com/brochure/A4.shtml

The Cobra seats are nice, however $1200 per seat? I can find better ways to spend $2400 on a car than just seats. I looked at the sizing chart but didn't see a listing specifically for that seat. However, the seats that are listed are wider than the A4's.

I was thinking about getting those same seats for my 89 turbo. So how comfortable are they? Are they as comfy as the stock seats on a long drive???
