A/C fuse locations?

A/C fuse locations?

Anyone know where the 10 amp fuse that is listed on the wiring diagram for the a/c is located? It looks like it is in or near the fuse box, but I can't find it. Someone did some crazy jury rigged wiring on my a/c at the main a/c relay, and I can't get power to the relay. I have power on both sides of the 30 amp circuit breaker on the fuse box panel, but it doesn't get to the main relay near the radiator.

i thought the AC fuse was under the hood, bump!!

I can not find any fuse on the fuse block under the hood or the fuse box on the kick panel inside the car that directly relates to the a/c. Except for the 30 amp circuit breaker on the fuse box.

Actually, I have 5. But the 86 has the fuse block under the hood. First gens have fusible links. Although I did convert my 80 to a second gen fuse block.

The ac relay gets 12v from two sources. On the LB, blue/black wire it comes from 10a fuse in the crew compartment. It's on the lowest row of fuses, the second one from your left looking into the box.

The RY, red/yellow wire at the relay, gets its 12v from the 30a circuit breaker in the crew compartment. Its the one on the very, very top left. There are but two there on the very top. Its the one on the far left as you look into the box.

If your blower motor works, then that fuse should be good. But seeing as how somebody monkey fucked with the car......who knows.

The RY wire leaves a eight pin/socket plug near the blower motor, leaves the crew compartment and goes to a six pin/socket plug neat the ac relay, then to the relay.

If you have 12 at both pins a the relay, then look for a ground or the lack of at the LW wire at the relay. If that's not there its most probable that there is not enough pressure in the system to activate the low pressure switch at the dryer. Jumper that two socket plug and see if the relay pulls in. If it does.....then the system is low on refrigerent.

You might pull the eight pin/socket plug off at the blower motor and see if the L wire has 12v on it. That is the one that comes from the 30a fuse at the top of the fuse box in the crew compartment. If its got 12v, then you don't have to check the fuse box.

The AC in our cars is a port/dealer installed item.
They usually get power from the "cigar" lighter fuse.
The fan CB is needed as an interlock (the fan must be on), but not as a power source.

To test - pull the cigar fuse & try the AC. The fan will work but the AC clutch will not.
I discovered this when wiring the E-fan (through a diode) to the AC clutch.

Wellllllllll........the 87fsm that I have before me, shows the Air Condition Main Relay. It gets its ground from the ECU on the LW wire at the relay. The 12v source is a RY wire. It goes from the relay, to what they call Bc-06 plug, a four socket/pin plug. From there it goes to a plug called G-07, a eight pin/socket plug where it is still RY. Then it goes to a wire that shows to have three splices in it. One to a power transistor, one to a Ex-High Relay and one to the Heater Relay. If the Heater Relay is pulled in, I think it (the ac relay) gets its 12 when the Heater Relay is pulled in. If the Heater Relay is pulled in, then the source would be the 30a fuse located on the top left of the fuse box in the interior. I'll attach a jpg off another site later. This site won't support my jpg no more hardly ever, ever. Soooo if what I see is not right, set me straight.

My mechanic got the a/c to work, with the only problem now.....when i turn on the a/c button the lights go out on the logicon. Like the vent, vent/floor lights etc. Kinda funky!
Hailers, that was how i was reading the wiring diagram also.

I do believe I'm experiencing a drain on my battery... and the only quirk with the electrical system that I know exists is the A/C. The dude I bought the car from said the A/C fuse sometimes blows out at random intervals. Well...it's supposed to be the Cigar fuse from what SureShot says. Which is listed to be a red 10a fuse, right? I just pulled that fuse and it's a blue 15a one...would that be my drain right there? Oh, and, it isn't broken...
