LA Motorcars and Service Contract

For those of you that have purchased a car from Lance at LA motorcars in Richardson Texas or those of you planning on doing so I wanted to post this thread. There is an extremely reputable dealership here for FDs with a mechanic that is supposed to be fantastic. So I took my FD down there to have the fuel filter replaced and see if my service contract will cover fixing my idle problems. They were very familiar with the service contract (mine is 3 yr 36K) from Lance, so once they call me about the details on what it will cover I will post again.

P.S. This isn't in the Texas region because many people look at buying from Lance from out of state.

for those of you that are interested in checking it out.

I'll be interested in hearing what they tell you.

I also must warn anyone buying from him, check the VIN!

I had no problems buying from Lance and actually recommend him. What problems did you have?

I have had no problem with my FD which I have had for a year now, bought from Lance. Of course, I took it to RP first and had them dyno and throughly check it out first.

Under the service contract, I have had RP replace my rear bushings that was covered. And also took the car a couple of weeks ago to a dealership (probably the same one you are talking about with the reputable mechanic, most in DFW know who he is!) to get my AC repaired. It was also covered except for the $100 deductible.

That puts me fairly close to the $1000 mark in covered repairs without issue. Well worth it in my book as I expect my turbos will fail before the contract expires!

I'm glad that you haven't had any trouble with them. I'll be soon finding out if I'll be as lucky. My motor is on it's last leg, and my secondary turbo is dying. *crosses fingers*

Who is the mechanic that you took it to?

Sometimes Lance can get busy and forgetful, but my whole buying experience was awesome with him. At the time I had never driven an FD before, and was considering a cheaper, more modded one before he got the CYM in. He left me test drive it without even showing any cash.

Just make sure you keep on him to transfer the paperwork for the warranty into your name.

WOW!

Ok, the dealership just called. A blown UIM gasket. Service contract is covering over 900 dollars!! I am paying 500 for labor, a fuel filter change, and misc. hoses and clamps that Paul Wooley [Gateway Mazda in Aurora Colorado] will use to replace anything he sees one his way down to the gasket. I, so far, am very pleased with both the contract and this dealership. I have one of the best Rotary mechanics working on it, doing something I don't have the time to do and the contract is saving me nearly a grand!! I'll update when I get it back and have time to go through it. They will have it until monday.

By the way, this isnt' a random dealership I took it too. The dealership and mechanic came highly recomended to me by the local SCCA people. So anit-dealer spam!!

i bought my fd from lance and totally recommend you getting a car from him. There is really nothing better than an fd but an fd with a warranty. I have already gotten a new motor and tranny and it goes into the shop on tuesday to get suspension fixed. It is really good and totally rad to have. To answer the question though you cant buy a warranty from him you have to buy the car from him so sorry to burst bubbles but you need to buy the car from him.

Again, check the VIN's...they do sell cars with salvaged titles.

Whether thats truly bad or not, you never know with each car, cause I think its been shown only body damage on this car can cause it to be totaled.

One car on there now has a salvaged title, I will say.

And I'm in no way saying anything bad about them, I just know most of you would rather buy one with a good title. I'm in fact looking to buy one, and if I can't find one with a blown engine, thats the first place I'm looking!

I'd recommend him, everything went smooth and he helped out more then he needed to. Mine still had a stock warranty when I got it so I didn't get the other warranty.

Car runs great!! I had a erratic idle that is now perfect!! The company took a day to make payment but big deal. Definetly a great thing to have if you live by a good dealership.

Hey engberg just wondering why you are paying 500 for labor? Shouldnt that be included in the warranty or is it because you are having hoses and clamps replaced which were not covered by warranty. Thanks.

Lance is great, and this warranty thing is great!

I do continue to wonder how long will it take the warranty company to catch on that most of the time when they insure FD's they replace the motor and sometimes the turbo's as well.

That includes 100 dollar deductible, labor for a fuel filter change and the initial labor for the mechanic to find what the problem is, because I told him to look for the problem.

Hey Engberg, did they do anything that changed your boost pattern?

...and you did right to let them change the fuel filter - that thing is a bitch.

My Bud bought from Lance and got a great car put together by RP in garland...He recently blew out his 5th gear syncro and took it down there and they fixed it (under waranty) no questions asked....Really a good way to go if you are looking for a solid working FD

I bought my car from Lance at LAMotors. Lance is a good guy and if you are nice to him he will treat you well also. It is best though and I do agree with everyone to check the vin of the car you might be purchasing because he does get alot of his cars from salvaged titles, wrecks, and flood damage. So becareful. He is very competitive with his price and it is very hard to find someone who will sell fd's with warranties. I know for a fact that if I had bought my car from a private party that with the problems I have had the car would be sitting still from all of the money that I would have to save to get it fixed.

Heres a list of what I have had done and how much I have had to pay due to warranty coverage. A/C went out and I payed only 250 of 1250 worth of work. Clutch and Flywheel I paid 900 for the parts but install was free due to warranty work on the fifth gear synchro being replaced. Engine blew and I had extensive work done to the car with fluidyne radiator, ast tank, street port, 3mm seals, silicon hoses, and block off plates and for all of that I payed 3800 and the warranty company paid 7000. I payed 194 for a hub and warranty covered all of my bushings and bearings being replaced. It is the shop to get a connection rod in transmission fixed right now and I will pay only 100 bucks for that so as you can see with all of the work that I have done that the warranty that lance provides is very very owner friendly.

Dont let all of my problems discourage you from owning an fd. As many times as my friends here me say that I hate my car they know that I love her and she is my baby. Its just when it goes wrong it really goes wrong and it is comforting to know that you have a warranty that is going to fix any and everything wrong with your car. Buy the car but check the vin first you dont want to buy a bad fd and then regret it.

But the last thing that you should know about the warranty is that whenever you get to the purchase price of your car that is when the warranty expires. So for example if you bought your car for 15000 the warranty company will do 15000 dollars worth of work for you and when you hit that it is finished and you have to start paying for it then. Just a friendly reminder though.

Here's a good question...

Has anybody used this OmniCare warranty at a shop OTHER than Rotary Performance? I'm talking for engine/turbo/other big stuff, not for little things like factory CD player, etc, etc...

thanks sparkey for the good info. I did not realize the warranty only covered the value the car was paid for. Good looking out!

I used it at a mazda dealer for AC repair with success.
