Just blew my motor...

I was street tuning the car and the fuel a/f's were 10-10:3 under WOT. To rich, so I leaned it out to 11:4 and when I pulled up to a light I got the familiar lope.. Time for a rebuild...

Damn! Sorry to hear about your motor. That's what keeps me from buying a PFC.

There's nothing wrong with a PFC.

Tuning by yourself without the right tools is what can get you into trouble...at least from what I've seen from the posts of this board.

What were your tuning methods? What wideband were you using? Do you have a copy of the tuning log file from the PowerFC you could send me to look at?

Regards,
Brian

We had a wideband, we had the correct tools I just got hp greedy. At 11:2 it was running well so I kept taking out a little more...

Brian,

I will pull my motor next weekend, hopefully time permitting. I will pull it apart and see what it needs. I will probably buy new and I already have a new rotor housing lying around. The rotor may be bad though, but hopefully not..
I needed a larger port job anyway...

So what A/F ratio should you be hitting for good power and safety?

there is no reason it should have broken @ 11.4 : 1 ??? you have another problem whether it be timing or something

Wow, sorry.
I hope you are able to get everything better than before and not get too upset over it.

11.4 is safe for a rotary, you must have gone way past that!

i agree with vosko and skunks.

id think its a timing or mechanical issue....and not the tuning if you were only at 11.4:1

many tuning shops tune at 11.5:1 across the board.

conservative being 11.2

let us know....and sorry to hear of the troubles.

Chris,

sorry to hear....there is always the reman route, but it's likely cheaper in your case to just order parts as needed, since you can do the porting and assembly yourself....good luck

my motor is running sweet with the good ol Pettit, ha

you could always pay a shop to do it if you don't have time

how old was the motor?

and yes pettit is the **** I could run 13.4:1 and it would still survive haha just kidding

Cut down in its prime . Sad we can't all live until a more natural water seal failure.

Mark,
If the inside of the motor is trashed I will probably do the reman and porting just like we did on yours. I am not sure though because the motor only had ~25,000 miles on it since I pulled it and ported it for fun. The Power FC is great until you pull out to much fuel.
