Question Exhaust system ground wire, WTF?

There is a ground wire that goes from the body of the car (one of the exhaust hanger spots) to the muffler on the driver's side. What is it for?

I recently installed an Apexi GT-Spec cat-back exhaust system, and there is a bolt and hole in it that is designated for the ground wire. I assume this means that the ground is important.

Any ideas guys?

I took off the grounding strap and made my own ground on the passenger side when I took off my stock catback and replaced it with the n1 single.

WTF... when I replaced stock with RB complete, I didn't see any ground wires. I looked too, because the instructions said it would be there, but couldn't find it.

It's to minimize rusting to the exhaust system.
If your O2 sensor quits working after removing this wire, you're got bigger problems.

ted is right, as well as it also helps avoid engine noise on the stereo from the static electric charge that can be created at the gaskets.

Just put it on, it will make you sleep better at nite.

at least it did for me

I just tapped a couple of welds on my wire, but a large hose clamp out of site should be easy to do also.
