White Goop In Oil Filler Neck *pics*

This has happened before. There is a slimy white goop in the oil filler neck. What is this? What causes this? Should I be worried about a blown engine?

I think the white goo is an unknown entity but was decided to be normal.

just new to this forum and the rx7

but anything that looks like mayonaise in the oil is usually a mix of oil and water

the question is where is the water coming from?

if you are only driving short distances during winter then the moisture in the air drawn into the engine can be enough to cause minor amounts of white goo

and is why when for a few minutes after a car is started it will be blowing white steam and drops of water out the exhaust

however once the engine is up to temperatures above boiling point the moisture in the air will be boiled out and the oil should look clean, exhaust will also stop blowing steam as super heated water vapour can't be seen

SO, if you have a little mayo after a few weeks of short runs near freezing don't be worried

BUT, if you have lots of mayo there all the time, even after several drives of over half an hour, then you may have blown an O-ring

keep an eye on your coolant levels and the see if there is an oily film in your radiator water

I used to get that stuff, and it does seem to be somewhat "normal". But I think it stopped when I switched to synthetic oil.

take 1 part of oil and 1 part of water.
mix them with a mixer, then you will get butter.

I agree, I had the same issues with my '93 Touring. Doesn't seem to be any problem at all and certainly no cause for worry. Laterz.
