TriPower A-Pillar Triple Gauge Pod Update

-----Original Message-----
From: Philip Verdieck Subject: rx-7 3rd gen A-pillar pod

How is this one coming along?

Hey Philip,

We have several delays in material suppliers and also the plastic molder
(mostly due to the quantities being so low). Unfortunately because of this I
don't see the units ready to ship until christmas.

Thanks for the response, I understand.

I guess my A-Pillar will be naked for a few more months

Anyways, I have couple minor questions, if you can answer them...

Did you texture it like the center channel pod?

What did you do for fastening it down? I was half thinking the best action would be to replace the entire padded A-Pillar piece, and mount directly to the
A-Pillar.

Edward Laganis wrote:

Yes, the piece is replacing the entire A-pillar padded trim so therefore you
will not have to ruin the stock one. Yes it will be textured molded ABS
plastic to match the interior as best as we can. It will have factory type
snaps to hold it in place (an addition screw maybe necessary depending on
the weight of all gauges)

Well, they are getting closer. Jason will have them when they are available.

Philip,

Its finally here! I have attached a couple jpegs of our 3 gauge Tri-Pillar.
This a full pillar replacement in textured black ABS. The photo shows a
pre-production pillar, production units will be available shortly.

Thanks for your patience and interest,

Tony

I'll send another email to find out. I did call Jason at the RX-7 store, and he mentioned that Autopiller is/has come out with a 3 pillar themselves. It is listed in their catalog on their site.

TriPower mentioned some production issues in their last email, but I got the feeling it was right around the corner, I will inquire and update this thread.

Yeah, I hear that Autometer has one out. Is it a full A-Pillar replacement, or do you attach it to the existing A-Pillar cover/shroud?

Does anyone know the answer to this? It the Autometer a full replacement, or a piece that attatches to the stock a pillar?

From the Autometer online catalog, it looks like a full replacement. I am going to email TriPower again.

Forget it, they shelved it...

Hey Philip,
Thanks again for your interest in Tri-Power Products but the 3-gauge
A-pillar pod (and future products) are postponed indefinitely. Currently
there are molding problems, wholesale/retail pricing issues, and worst of
all-lack of interest in the product from both vendors and those in the rx7
community. Though you and several others have shown interest in this product
it is not enough to recover production costs at this point. I will let you
know if the situation changes. Once again, our apologies on any
inconvenience this may have caused you.

-Thank you

Someone somewhere has to make an actual 3 gauge replacement a pillar mount. And when I say replacement, I mean pop off the stocker and put in the aftermarket. Everyone who says they have a replacement isn't explaining it. It still COVERS the stock pillar, so whether tape or screws, it's still going to screw it up. The autometer ISN'T a replacement. I called them to verify that. It's a cover.

Unfortunately, that is the only game in town. Face it, the market is too small. That is why TriPower bailed.

I have the autometer and you can make it work as a full replacement. When you pull off the stock a-pillar there is a plastic rivet holding the headliner on. I took out the rivet, drilled a hole in the autometer, put a nut behind the headliner and bolted it down. I then put a black screw cap over the head of the bolt. It isn't perfect but beats drilling the stock piece. What would be perfect is if I could find the right length and diameter interior plastic rivet or similar piece to hold the top in. The bottom is held in because it is a press fit between the dash and the side of the car. I can post pics but I only have my camera phone.

I'll try something like that. I am purchasing a used a-pillar to trash for the Autometer install.

I also have 60 mm gauges in the pod so I had to file it out to make them fit. It isn't perfect, but I guess it will work until someone decides to make one. If I was good with fiberglass or carbon fiber I would make one myself. The only way to mount 60 mm gauges on the a-pillar is to bore out 52mm mount or screw up your stock a-pillar piece attaching Greddy universal pods to it.
