New speakers for the FD (pics)

Hey all,

Just thought I'd share some pics of the new speakers I ordered for my FD.

I have a non-Bose system, and wanted to just upgrade the stockers with some decent speakers without spending over $200 for the whole shabang.

I also wanted co-axials that fit with minimal tweaking.

I listened to a bunch of different speakers... MB Quarts, Eclipse, Boston Acoustics, and the usual Pioneers, etc..

I really like the Boston Acoustics FX series but couldnt find a place online to purchase, and the local shop wanted to much for em.

I finally settled on AudioBahn's.

Fronts are ACX-552 @ $75/pair

Rears are ACX-680P @ $94/pair.

I ordered thru http://www.cardiscountstereos.com and shipped right away and packing was very good. I would definitly use them again.

The speakers came in a nice wood box and appear to be of very good quality. I cant wait to get em in and see how they sound. Im sure they will be a decent improvement over stock, which is all Im looking for.

Anyway...here are some pics...

They look great but I foresee a big problem.

I think those fronts will be WAY too deep. You may run into the window/mechanism. Good luck, I hope I'm wrong.

hmmm, I thought a mounting depth of up to 2.5 inch would be ok....I guess that might be kinda tight...

Thanks for the heads up!

Anyone happen to know if I could fit the 5 1/4 into my Bose inclosures in the door? I'm already running an Alpine head unit and would like to upgrade the speakers now.

Thanks,

Nick

I'd like to know as well. The depth using the Bose box is only 2" and I know Diamond 4" will drop in but I remember 4" in my MR2 and they were sad.

I know you'll need the hole biger in the Bose box but wouldn't you also need spacers since it's only 2" deep?

The Circuit Shity install manual says you can go 6.5" in front with spacers but does not mention the Bose box.

Really, from the pics, those speakers look VERY deep, like 3+ inches. I had heard that it's tight fitting 6.5 inch speakers up front because of depth issues -- assuming a stock mounting.

I am certainly interested in hearing exactly how deep you can go as I am looking to upgrade my front speakers this fall.

EDIT: I just saw that he installed 5.25 inch fronts, so I can see they are not as deep as I thought. Just checked website and says 2-1/2 inches. That is still deeper than I thought you could go.

raspy sounding tweeter? are u serious, I sell mb quart, jl audio, kicker, boston acoustic and I think that out of all the product I sell the audiobahns have the best clarity and midbass I ever heard in the 10 years Ive been doing this. The only other seperates Ive heard that I would say have better sound are ads.

I don't like any of those (titanium, aluminum, hybrid)either. If you like soft and smooth highs, then you can only choose "silk" tweeters!

FYI, I finally got time to work on this project... The speakers fit fine in the doors...Had to make an adapter plate and cut out the plastic in back of the speaker but the mounting depth (2.5inches) was no problem.

Next on the list is a the Infinity Basslink..
