TII boost problems
1988 TII:
I have head jolting cut out at 39mm of Hg of boost (I'm running stock gauges in my car). I'm running with stock exhaust (cats and all) Could it be fuel related or ignition related? I was told to get spark plugs and gap them REAL tight. Need second opinions.
I have ordered a fuel cut from RB hoping that it's fuel. Beyond that I'm afraid I'm clueless.
Thanks to all those who respond. I'm a new TII owner with my past experience in 7's coming from 3 GXL's (86, and two 87's)

well 39mm is 7.5 psi... stock is 5.5 you are probbaly hitting fuel cut. how so with stock cats? I don't know... maybe your wastegate line is off.
I'd put a boost gauge in before the FCD!!!

Yeah, I wouldn't go by the boost gauge's reading. I don't get what you said about gapping the plugs - you can't gap the stock NGK plugs. What plugs did you get? If you got some bobo plugs, that's the first thing to look at.

Get a real boost gauge, like these guys said. Fuel cut is like that, and if you still floor it, the turbo will spool back up and do it again. And again. Get the gauge, because if your wastegate isn't working, you'll stick that FCD on and blow your motor.

my favorite gagues are VDO as they're race proven, accurate, and inexpensive.
VDO has like 15 different styles to choose from, they sell gauge pods (1, 2, and 3 pod pillar mount), etc.. etc..

There's a group buy on groupbuycenter.com right now that has the regular Greddy boost gauge for $90 - great deal.
VDO makes OK gauges, but I had accuracy problems with mine over time. Build quality is kinda cheesy, IMHO.
Don't get me started on Autometer (Guessometer) gauges. You got a Japanese car, get a Japanese gauge.

It also said I had 22 inches of vacuum at idle.
Didn't matter where I placed the connection (mechanical), and two other guages proved it inaccurate.
I also hated the pink back-lighting.
Those guages are not for me.
One point I wanted to make - remember, your engine can live and die by what your gauges say. If you're tuning in a motor, 1-2psi can be the difference between fast and fun and a hand grenade. Get a quality gauge to begin with and you'll never have to wonder or worry.
Everyone I know who had Autometer gauges or the like were SHOCKED with the first Japanese gauge they bought - the top quality construction, lightning fast response, great illumination - you really get what you pay for. They couldn't believe the difference - heck I couldn't either when I hucked my old Autometer Phantom and got an Apexi EL boost gauge. Doesn't matter how hard or fast you shift - you can actually see the gauge drop all the way to vacuum and back into boost when you shift. That's just DAMN fast. Not to mention there's no zero "box" - it's a LINE, and the needle is dead-on pointing at it.
Anyhow, rant off
. This is one of those subjects that gets me going. There's a reason I have $1000 worth of Greddy gauges in my room ready to go on my car!

I don't know about the other VDO gauges. For temp, that's one of the cheapest gauges Greddy has - a 52mm temp is just over $100.
IMHO, oil pressure isn't that big of a deal - the stock oil pressure gauge tells you everything you need to know, and the stock sender is good for around 100,000 miles. All that's important with oil pressure is 30psi at idle and 60psi at 3000 RPM.
The temp gauges are a good idea, though.
BTW, Greddy's peak/hold/warning temp gauge is around $140 or so. You can even wire it up to a buzzer or light so if you start overheating it will warn you. That's what I'm planning on doing!

ya but the vdo are around 60 bucks canadian with the sender unit...
my car has 189,000 kms now... which is quite over 100,000 miles now... =(
poor car.
if i'm going to get 4 gauges its getting costly.... at 120 bucks a gauge... USD too...
but porsche uses VDO and ReTED recommened them once... so they can'tbe that bad... no way its worse then autometer...
