Stock rim cracking *pics*

I just noticed that a spoke on my passenger side rear rim has a crack as thin as a hair that goes all around(i think), i got some pictures. My question is: how much longer do i have before i will need to get a replacement? I dont beat on my car but i do drive it every day.

PS: i have a 93 Base

If I were you I would put on the spare and start looking for a used or new wheel asap.

The early 93 wheels didn't have as much reinforcement, thus they are lighter but prone to cracking.

Actually I have a 94 with wheels stamped 12/93, they appear thinner from the back and are supposedly the cracking type. Could you take a picture of the back of your wheel and also the date stamp on the front? I'd really appreciate it.

Submit it to your insurance, make them buy a wheel or however many are damaged. How are the others? It's obvious that the wheel has already failed, I'd replace it NOW.

I wouldn't mention "defect" to the insurance Co.

don't go the insurance route... one too many claims = higher premiums

Like CHeers said, higher premium.

It's better to fix the rim than pay it out every month for the next few years.

Please don't drive around on that rim until it's fixed.

you can try going to the city too. tell them you hit a pot hole in a construtsion zone and they have to buy you a new one. works up here.

but ya the 93 ones crack alot. they made them stronger (and heavier) in 94

I was actually kinda wondering this myself. Does anybody have pics of the rear of the weak and the strong for comparison sake?

i never knew rims were so easy to being damaged.

i like scott's idea..

but what about noon's fix... buy one single 94 rims... wouldn't have different weights at one wheel screw up the axel or something along those lines?

I don't really know which style cracks, but here is a picture of the ones that I have heard are the crack-prone ones:

Yes, these pictures are my usual high-quality jobs.

Anyway, here's a pic of the stronger ones. Again, I don't really know for sure which is which, but I hear these are stronger:

Spoolin,

Thanks for the info. Would it be possible to get a picture of the back of the wheel? It looks like it's the later wheels that crack, not the earlier ones.
