my new toy: 1992 Nissan Skyline GT-R

I picked this up last week from tiger japanese auto parts.

It's alot of fun. Or at least, it was, till it spun a rod bearing.

******* piston engines anyways. And the rebuild parts cost a fortune... a new oil pump is worth more than the entire engine in my TII cost to build. Anyways, built engine for it coming soon!

hopefully the pictures work:

Too bad about the spun bearing, GT-Rs are cool, even though other Skylines have gotten so common around here at least they seem boring (when the weather was nicer I was literally seeing them daily - and not the same car over and over either).

looking good, I guess you got tired of the sexy looking FD and decided to go godzilla style.

fully built motor with single turbo ? thats going to be sweet.

15k later with some overnight parts from japan and 11's is a possibility ...

Im just hating, just love the gtr crowd sometimes, but in serious note, that thing will be sweet with your gt40r and the built block.

Might I suggest an engine swap? 8 cylinders, perhaps?

I was looking at a GT-R as a winter beater.

If I were me, which Im sure I am, I'd build that engine top to bottom HKS. They did, afterall, make their name on the skyline.

yeah, tiger ftw.

they guaranteed me that it had no issues, but, clearly it did. I don't think I'll be giving them any more of my business.

I'm not putting a GT40 on it.. I'm going to keep it with twins, probably twin GT28RS' aka "double disco".

^^ I suppose it could be done with a rear-drive Skyline, but not an AWD GT-R - unless you wanted to toss the AWD system.

I can say that an LS1 swap into an AWD GTR is nearly impossible.

The front diff, oil pan and transmission, as well as the passanger side (left) axle, are basically one piece.
You'd need to either mount the LSx really high in the chassis, or make the GTR oilpan work with it.
realistically, it's probably not worth the hassle. If I thought it was, it would be getting an LS1 asap.

heh, someone always has to mention a V8 swap.
the Nissan inline 6 is a beautiful engine. and they can make power. i don't see any reason to bother with other powerplants...

and it had to be be, nahh im just kidding. I personally think the RB26 is also a great motor,

but I saw a local guys list of parts he needs to build his rb26, and holleyy F$$CK .

Its not cheap. like no labour , just parts ( at better than most others pricing ). was still around 6/8 k . add some machining, a new turbo, etc etc. and it was in the highhhh range. ( fully built though, with crank/rods/pistons, cams, oilpump etcetc ).

but that said, I think it can be a monster.

you have some bad *** setups, hb 13b , 20b and rb26 .

Azad stop polluting threads with talk about V8 swaps and big single turbos...hehe

whatever happened to just modifying the stock equipment/config a little bit?
like rb26 with twins, crazy idea! i think it might work! but it won't have 1000hp!

Terrh let us know how this turns out, and if it is a "fun" car to have as a project.

Nice car, too bad about the bearing, hopefully it won't cost you an arm and a leg.

This summer I got to ride in a GTR around the track as it was being driven by a racer/instructor. It was definetely fast, but it was more soft and ponderous than something like an RX-7, not that that can't be fixed. GTR's appeal to my liking of technology, gadgets and speed, but my love of driving makes me love more simple things without any driver aids.

I can say without a doubt that it has the stiffest OEM suspenson of anything I've driven. You feel every tiny bump.

I think the engine is going to cost $5k+ to rebuild.
