Camden Superchargers: WTF?!
Camden Superchargers: WTF?!
So, I e-mailed Atkins rotary, having heard rumors of a price drop for the fuel-injected supercharger kit (which I figured would HAVE to happen eventually), and got this back:
Anyone else think that's crazy? just a little bit?
actually the EFI supercharger kit is more than that now. we no longer
run it
off the stock ecu so you would need an aftermarket one with wire
harness
coils, intake manifold, injectors, etc. price is now $5800.00 for a
bolt in
package.

I think it makes a lot of sense actually. It's too bad they departed from their idea of swapping out a bare minimum of parts, but it sounds like a much better product now. Also, this will keep away the consumers who are under the misconception that a Roots blower kit is a cheap way to make a lot of boost, and will now focus on consumers who really want the Roots blower. I think that is an excellent price if it includes a custom intake manifold and a new EMS and ignition system.

Evil Aviator- While I understand your point, it takes what was already an expensive kit (maybe not for what it is. but still, 3.5 grand ain't cheap) and makes it all kinds of more expensive than before. Also, read his e-mail; there is some ambiguity as to whether or not it includes the ECU.

I think you're missing what I'm saying; I thought $3500 was a good deal for what they were selling. Read the quote from me again, and you'll see I said it's not expensive for what you get, merely that $3500 is a significant chunk of money.
While I suppose $5800 isn't unreasonable for a roots blower kit, especially with that much included, it's just a lot of money. I just mean to say, I think they would've found a market much easier at $3.5k than at $5.8k

The website is still showing $3,649.99.
I run the camden, and i do really like it, however it never achieved my hopes. i must say in all fariness it did meet their claims though. My biggest beef is the lack of R&D and reluctance to modify the rotors to a twisted 3 rotor configuration and really bring this thing up to date. This is my most recent thread, notice atkins never replied at all! https://www.rx7club.com/1st-generation-specific-1979-1985-18/camden-dyno-poll-693685/ I have tried several combinations with this thing, if anyone wants to know it true potential it is this: great torque! , great throttle response! , great midrange! Awesome for a street driven application. Will pull away from most turbo fc's right from the lights. Blower sounds cool and is very reliable. I recommend it for a "stockport" application on a streetdriven vehicle. Now what else needs to be said, maximum documented hp goal achieved so far has been 210 rwhp, that's it!!! Don't hope for more without nitrous, and a smaller pulley to increase boost won't do it either, been there done that. Last of all, it will kill a stock TII in the 60 foot for sure, but you will always be looking at almost any TII's tail lights in third gear! Just my 2 cents worth after 2 years with the camden, 4 different pulleys and 4 different carbs as well. Future for mine, well i am going to try to blow through the camden and see if I can get the best of both worlds. Long term plan, big turbo, standalone, efi, intercooler and polish the blower so it looks pretty sitting on my shelf in the garage. I hope to fit a turbo under the intake (challenging, will need to be custom, see room under intake in picture). You'll see a pic on an exhasut manifold I feel may work. Turbos are new territory for me, so be nice. I have a volvo intercooler, dizzy is locked, and I already have water/meth. I also run the autometer wideband as well. Before you criticize, it is a test and first only twin charged application, so it will be done on a budget.
Feel free to cast your vote and comment on the camden poll link. https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=693685
84stock, Thanks for your input; it's nice to hear from a guy who's has experience with the kit on here.
I heard back from Josh at Atkins; apparently the new cost includes ECU and all the other stuff he listed. While it's still more than I'd spend (I may pick one up used eventually), I now believe it's a good value for what you get. Like Evil said, it's not a cheap way to make lots of boost. That said, I think their unique kit sounds cool, and very complete.

I neglected to mention that I have used 3 different engine combinations as well, 6 port stockport, 6 port streetport, and 4 port 1/2 bridge. You "will" need a rebuild with the charger!
