I don't think it's a good idea either. I like searching old sale threads to see how much I should expect to pay for something or sell soemthing for.

 

I've sold some rare or hard to find parts on this forum and I generally still get pms or people resurrecting the thread months after the item has sold. What would be cool is if we could lock our own FS threads. I think Codeblue2 (one of the mods of the FS section) has offered to help with editing, revising or locking threads, might try pming him.

 

I think the thread starter should be able to modify his on thread (limited to the for sale section). This was discussed in my Poll Thread. Check it out in the Poll section and cast your vote. Although it hasn't really gotten any attention from the mods yet.

 

WIth the pace that fs threads are posted and replied to on this forum, finding recent/active ones to compare prices to should never be an issue.

I agree that sellers should be able to edit their original posts AND delete the whole thread once their part has sold. Or at very least close the thread to prevent dumbasses from posting months or years later and causing confusion among potential buyers.

 

That's a very important function that I think should be perserved. I know it helps me out a lot...

I just love those cryptic and politician-type responses we get from the mods and ryan about these things. Nobody ever actually addresses the issue at hand, they'd just rather make some comment along the lines of 'that is the way it is, if you dont like it, gtfo".

even if we allowed you to delete your own thread, when people are too lazy to update/reply to their own thread as "SOLD", do you expect them to DELTE them??

quick reply with the word "SOLD" is far less complicated for those who are lazy...

stop telling us what we should do...as you said, right now, this is the way it is...
use some common sense, the start date and last post date will pretty much can tell wheather the item is sold or not...or the seller doesnt give a rats ***...

 

We can. And do. But there is a large percentage of the forum population that clicks on a thread, reads the first post, and hits the reply button. Never taking time to scan down the post to see what has been sold.

In addition to the above, there is even another percentage that will do a search for whatever they are looking for, pay no attention to the start dates of the results, and reply to them months or YEARS after they were posted.

We just feel it would make things easier and better for everyone...if you take the thread away, or at least the ability to post in it, then it makes for less confusion and wasted bandwidth. Do I really need to be able to search back for f/s threads from 2002, and post in them if I so desire? Once they are back to the top, other people will post in them until someone takes notice...all the while, it should never have been accessible anyway.

Better yet....give us a good reason NOT to be able to do this. No one has done so yet.

 

 

Exactly my point. It's easy to be the "parent" and say well this is how it is just because. How about a reason WHY.

Because the forum software does not allow us to do what you want to do.

The software does not give us the ability to allow you to edit only the threads you have started. The only options we have is to allow a user editing access to an entire forum (lounge, 3rd gen for sale, suspension section etc), or no access at all. Once you are "let in" we can't restrict you to only deleting your own threads, you'd instead have full mod priveleges and could run amok through that entire forum.

Given what we have to work with Merciless' suggestion makes perfect sense.

 

There are far more frustrated children here than there are parents. Give us a break when on occasion you're the 50th person to ream our *** about something we can't do for you anyway. Sometimes we'd rather not talk about it yet again rather then go over it for the dozenth time today

Everyone only thinks about the bad. Be happy in the first place that we have a section for your specific car parts that gets lots and lots of viewer traffic. Be happy that many people have this forum on which they conduct their own personal business. No, that's not good enough. Everyone wants more, more, more...

The users would get much farther in their understanding of how things work if they didn't always automatically jump to the conclusion of "I can't get what I want so the mods are ********". We're all in this together

 

I apologize if the comments seemed ungreatful. I love this forum, owning an RX-7 would be difficult without it. These are merely suggestions that we feel would benefit the site.

Well, I would never have thought. I never implied that the mods were asses, just that it's like pulling teeth to get a straight answer to anything. I understand that you can't do what the software won't let you, and I wasnt aware this was the case. Other forums I have seen sometimes have this feature.

I believe you could have permission to edit only YOUR own posts but that creates big problems, especially in a for sale section. You could change the products, the price, the description whatever as time went on. To my knowledge there is no way this software will allow us to give you permission to only the delete thread button, it can only grant you permission to all of the editing tools.

 

i can grant permission to edit your own thread...but i doubt people will use it..i'm sure they will use it for the first few days...after a while, people just ignores them....

 

please do so in the for sale section. It would only help to benefit the site owners and users.

Since items are bought and sold at the buyer/seller's own risk there is no liability concerns with being able to edit a forsale thread. It only helps to clean up threads. Give it a try, I bet you'll be pleasantly surprised.

(I have at least 15 threads i can immediately delete from the for sale section, others will follow)

*Maybe throw up an announcement that it's recommended for sellers to do this. Just so eveyrone notices the new option and takes advantage of it.*

You could always post it on my auction site. You can post you item free until 01/30/2006. Even after that most items would only 0.30 to post and if it didn't sell there is no a re-listing fee. So 0.30 for a list till it sells. This way you can post it a week at a time. And you can a post the link to item on the forum.
