Lightbulb RX-8 6-speed in an FC??

Does anyone know if this is possible? Will the bell housing bolt up? I can make adapters for the crossmember. Also, will it be able to hold as much HP and torque as the TII tranny?

We've covered this before.

No, it's not a direct swap. No, it cannot hold the power that the TII transmission can. And I think we've already determined that the gear ratios are far from optimal.

A search for "rx8 transmission" will likely turn up many long threads.

It's been covered before, they're pretty damn weak.

Geezus, you post this in NP and then in here???

What are you trying to accomplish with this swap???

The 6-speed just adds another gear in between 2nd, 3rd, and 4th on a 5-speed.
This means you just SHIFT MORE.

On the VIN plates they are FE, but many people also call them by the development name SE3P (sort of like the FC was the P747 in development).

I think with the 6th gear it would be great for fuel economy at high speeds wouldn't it? Lower rpm and a higher speed than 5th on the stock tranny right?

Im not saying that its worth it to go out and buy one brand new, but defenitly if you had one lying around or scored a good deal on it from a wrecking yard...

*SMACK*
Have you been listening???

Stock FC 5th gear is about the same as the 6-speed 6th gear!
It doesn't do jack for fuel economy!

doh

The 6-speed just makes you shift more (unless you skip gears), cause it's an extra ratio in between 2nd, 3rd, and 4th on the FC 5-speed.

It is NOT another overdrive gear.

But what if you had a smaller diameter driveshaft? Would that make it more fuel economical?

well this brings up a more relevant question. Is there a transmission with a higher 5th or 6th gear that we can swap in without lotsa fabbing? I've always wanted one but never bothered looking around, maybe this question has already been asked, sorry.

Wouldn't having that extra gear make your car faster? Sorta like the miata's babybox.

no an extra gear won't make it faster, the 6speed in the "FE" (it does feel weird) is a close ratio trans. its main design purpose is to keep the renesis in its most powerful rpm range throughout your stroll dwon the 6 gear beach.

it won't add to your top speed, and have you ever topped out your stock TII?
WHY THE **** WOULD WANNA GO FASTER THAN 240kms/hr

In theory i suppose it may keep the TII motor more in its powerband than the 5 speed however from my experience test driving an "FE" - **** that - RX-8, it pulls hard throughout a shorter rpm range than the turbo car, so really I don't think it would have any benefit at all, other than shifting into 6th is just pretty cool, aside from that, just all whole lotta work for a whole lotta nothing.

PS, maybe the search button should be highlighted with flashing letters and gif's of bikini clad women surrounding it............

Maybe if you additionally switch the final drive to something lower it will be about what some of these guys are looking for. Like an automatic 3.9 differential, if it's N/A.
