T04R vs GT3540

Wich one oof these turbos is the better one in features like spool up , and power . Also is the T04R almost equal to the T66?

rough comparison analogy:

t04r=1st gen rx7
gt35/40= 3rd gen rx7(w/out the headaches, of course )

i'm pretty sure the to4 is a 60mm, though

many will beg to differ(specifically the ones who own the t78) but the gt35/40 is the supreme turbo for all out street use. impressive numbers, impressive performance (nocab72- que in here about cobra vid), and impressive spool. uhhh, what else is there to say?

oh yeah, it's $3999 and worth every penny (i don't have those kinda pennies, so i got a smaller, more economical one

t04r is NOT a 60 mm turbo.

It's bigger than that and comparable to T66 and Mitsubishi T78.

The T04R is quite similar to the T66
as ive had both turbos the GT35/40 defiantely out spools the T04R..The T04R is bigger than the GT35/40 and is good for people running "big" boost like 20+psi ... as the saying goes its all about selecting the correct single turbo for your needs..if you dont need the big turbo dotn get it..this seems to be the big mistake when most people go single turbo...
I would say for most street/drag the GT35/40 is tough to beat, as much people here have praised its spool-up time while givng these people over 400+rwhp eaisly.. i think "Ihor" did 470rwhp

Yep.
GT35/40 is generally a better street turbo in my opinion - still make tones of power (I've seen one dyno of 460 rwhp @ 20 psi) and has fast spool up.
The T04R has capability to make more power than the GT35/40, but it won't spool up as fast.

HKS T04R:
Compressor Wheel: 63 Trim GT Series
Inducer: 66.7mm
Exducer: 84mm
Turbine Wheel: 76 Trim GT Series
Exducer: 64.7mm
Major Diameter: 74.2mm

T66:
Inducer: 65mm
Exducer: 91mm
Your choice of turbine wheels on this one. I'll start with the P trim
P Trim:
Exducer: 64.4mm
Major Diameter: 74.2mm
Do the above measurements look familiar?
Now to the Q trim
Q trim:
Exducer: 68.4mm
Major Diamter: 79mm

Hope that helps.

Sorry, I dont have any specs on the GT3540. Well I sort of do have them and then again I sort of dont have them. I have certain GT40 specs and certain GT35 and GT37 specs. Plus there are different trim levels for each specification. Such as, the GT40 can be had in a 50 or 54 trim compressor and 73 or 84 trim turbine and still be called a GT40.

how much is the t04R though vs the 4k gt 35/40. And what about rebuilding them, are there parts available?.... Its gonna be spendy, if possible to rebuild the Gt 35/40.

The HKS TO4R is $5690 and you also need a J-spec lower intake manifold (no ACV/EGR) If you want to rebuild a HKS T04R you need to buy a new turbo as HKS has a stranglehold on their turbo parts/specs
http://www.hksusa.com/products/?id=687

The GT35/40 will need a new cartidge from overseas but Garrett is now starting to distribute these turbos in the states , you just need to know where to go

You can get the T04R overhauled over here... Nothing to exotic about the bering. If you chew the wheels you might have some trouble in the US though.

Well the HKS TO4R is so expensive because Garret builds them and HKS puts their label on it.....right? Can't you just get one of the OEM TO4R's? or you talking about the kit its self? how much is a standard TO4R?

HKS builds the T04R they have an evil custom compressor wheel that they make with the bullet nut. Air Research (part of Garret to my understanding) builds the rest.

I heard Scoot developed a 600ps or 700ps road racer...how can a 500ps (flywheel power) GT35/40 compare with that??
