People over 6' with sunroofs?
People over 6' with sunroofs?
I am 6'3" and have been specifically looking for FD's without a sunroof based on the recommendations of this board. Are any of you guys tall AND have a sunroof? Is it really as bad as it's made out to be? Anyone tall and been in both, as to give a back to back comparison. I'm trying to see how much I can expand my search, but if the sunroof really does make it that much tighter of a fit, I'll just continue looking for the 'perfect' model.
I am 6' 3", and I have a 93 Touring model, and I fit fine behind the wheel. I've never driven a non-sunroof 3rd gen, but I can tell you that you'll be fine with a sunroof if you lay the seat back a little extra!
I'm 6'3" and have a 94 touring with sunroof. I have no problem but I drive kinda slouched. My boss is the same height but 350 lbs and cant slouch like I can so he definately has a problem. Unless your a big boy like my boss you wont have a problem

I test drove a touring before I got my R1. I am 6'5" and it really wasn't too bad. It definately wouldn't be good for driving long distance in my case. I lean the seat back so my head fit in the bend from roof to hatch and still had to slouch down some more. My R1 has just enough headroom that I don't really have to slouch, for me that 1/2 inch really did make a difference.

I'm 6'3" and 170lb with a base model. With a helmet on I exactly fit in the car with *no* extra. My feet are on the pedals, my knee rubs the wheel, the seat is back all the way, my arms are outstreched, and my helmet rubs the roof. I could fit in a sunroof car without the helmet. Also, I am getting a 320mm wheel so I can slouch a bit more. I think it could be made to work with a smaller wheel but I would wait for a car without it.
Don't forget the obvious solution: drive with the roof open

I'm 6'5" & have a sunroof. All things said, I would prefer to not have a sunroof, but I wanted leather & (foolishly) the Bose stereo. I fit ok, but it could be more comfortable (the NSX manages to hold me just fine with plenty of extra room, why the 7 can't is beyond me).
One thing is certain tho, if you're tall and have a sunroof, you'll have a hard time squeezing yourself in with a helmet shod head.
oh... and while it is possible to heel-toe while downshifting, it's not the smoothest thing in the world and isn't nearly as effective as it could be if there was a touch more room.

I'm 6'3" with a sunroof and I slouch a bit, but only because I don't like to recline the seat very far. My knees also rub the wheel. I don't think about these things when I'm driving, though. If the only FD you find has a sunroof, then get it. It's not that big of a deal. There is no way in hell I would fit confortably with a helmet, however.
If you want a track car, you should stay away from the sunroof. Sunroof weak the chassic. It's not as rigid as the one without.
As far as fit in it. You wil fit in it fine. But don't look for headroom with sunroof. Coz there will be none. Go to one of your local RX-7 meeting. Check out yourself. I'm sure our forum member will willing to let you sit in their cars.

And opening the sunroof won't give you any extra room (unless you drive leaning toward the middle of the car). I wish it did.
If you are going to race the car, I would stay away form the sunroof as well. Not because it weakens the chassis (this may be the case, but not NEARLY as much as you would think.), but because with a helmet, you need all the headroom you can get.
Im 6' 1" and i have been in both, there is no major diff, i have at least 3 incvhes clearence in mine (no sunrof) but my friends doesnt seem to be any worse. the double bubble roof shape in a non sunroof definatly would help though
I am 6" 0" tall. My head just clears. It is uncomfortable with a helmet. My knees hit the steering wheel and heal toeing is a bitch. I will be replacing my seats and I can't find anything that I like which will fit in the car other than race seats. At this time, it looks like Sparco pro 2000s with a disconnect steering wheel so I can get into and out of the car. I hope the disconnecting steering wheel will also make my car more difficult to steal.
I had a 93 without sunroof, and now a 93 with a sunroof. I'm only 5'10", but long trunk and fat head. The sunroof brushes the hair on my head and is a nuisance. The model with out the sunroof definitely gives more room. One nuisance is the static pulling your hair when close to the roof. Get rid of the static electicity charge with fabric softener? or shave your head.
I'm 6'2 and have a 94 with sunroof, I fit pretty good but if I hit a bump my head hits the roof. I think I remember seeing in a Japanese magazine about a seat bracket that lowers the seat a couple of inches, but I can't remenber what magazine or who makes it

I am 6'3", 210 lbs and have had a 94 Touring model (with sunroof) for 4 years. You need to recline the seat a bit but it all fits. By the way, the subroof lifts before it retracts to minimize the impact to head room.
