Stock Rim Idea?
Hey guys heres the deal, i have a old 83, real nice car, the rims however, look like trash, oxidized, dirty s.o.b.'s, So i tried sanding them down, and all i got out of it was some really sore hands, and a quarter of one rim completed, so i got to thinking, there has got to be an easier way. So heres my idea, i'm gonna really polish the lip of the rim to almost chrome like brightness, and then just paint the 4 spokes black. I will probably do this tommorrow, and i'll post some after pics, but i was just wondering it anyone has done this, or thought about it, i'm not sure how it will look sine the spokes are pretty thick, but i guess we'll have to wait and see, any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys
Cheers, Matt

Polishing wheels is my favorite pastime
Actually, I've done three of my 4 wheels about half way (220 -320 grit or so up from 60, one up to 600 just to see how it's going to turn out) I plan on getting all the way to 2000, but like I'm sure you are (or are going to) expiriencing.... its a painfully slow process. Oh well, I started it, might as well finish

I had an 84 with the +style wheels in which I took a wire brush (on a drill) to it instead of sanding it. once you've completed every wheel, go get a polishing wheel and some polishing compound (perferable start with a rougher polishing compound and then go to a finer compound). Then finish it up with a mirror glaze compound and you'll have a mirror finish when you are done. Took me about 2hrs per wheel.
When I get home I'll post some finished pics, and I might have some before pics somewhere.

I'm doing that with a very dark gunmetal gray center and polished aluminum lip, except my wheels arent the stock ones
I'm using dupli-color engine enamel for the paint, and mothers mag aluminum polish. I'm almost done with em now.
Here they are before I started. They really didn't look this good to start with though, lip was very dirty and were caked with brake dust from auto-x.

coldy13: I like those rims the way they are (always wanted those for my non-SE 1st gen(s). Looks good as is. The only thing I might do is polish the outter lip on those.
rustbucketrx7 and Winnipeg85GSL: Thanks for the compliments. It made the car look a heck of lot nicer when I shined them up. Plus I felt like a had new rims on the 7 after that.

I think mine might be '83 LE wheels. When I posted a pic of them on wheelspecs.com people thought they were Riken wheels. But when I was over at Denny's, he told me that BBS made them for the '83 LE. I think I trust Denny more than the people at Wheelspecs.com, since most of them only like new style wheels.
I have a problem with painting them. But I don't wanna hijack this thread at all with it, so I'll go make a new thread.
