I didn't know that there was one...I seem to limit at 4500 RPM and 118 mph in 5th. Need more power in this S4, me thinks.

Anyway, I thought you could run it right up to redline in 5th, assuming you have the power.

the govenor(speed limiter) is at 137mph. i have never taken it that fast but man in an S4 N/A it would take a bit to get up there and maybe not, i just need to get my exhaust all done , the cats are clogged to shiat!

I have an s4 and I just wanted to see how fast I could get my car in forth gear. I got on the interstate put it forth and hit the gas untill I got to about 6900 rpms. My speedometer was showing a little over 120. I would imagine that If I put it into 5th I could hit 150 easy

there is no speed limiter on A spec cars, only on the Jspec (and I imagine any that are sent down to Aus/NZ).

On the Jspec the limiter is 112 mph.

Wrong 5th gear will not pull for crap. You have until 7800 rpms before you need to shift...(first off if your trying to max out your car dont be scared to go into the redline) when you shift at 7800 you will be higher up in the power band if there is any for your 5th gear pull. Shifting before 7000 or even 7800 will do nothing but put stress on the motor and clutch and you will never see 150. -Gabe

thanks guys. i thought u.s. law required it. my 91 camry would fuel cut at 120. by the way this was a shot from 85 downhill in 4th. got to 130 and then it turned uphill, baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, back down.

and to put this straight. most cars will need shifting at redline to stay in the powerband, expecially low torque cars (not talking musclecars). now if you can't max 4th, then forget 5th. if you redline 4th and then shift to 5th and start to lose speed, you are out of your powerband. your top speed is accomplished in 4th. this is for those that don't understand the power/drag/gearing concept.

now to try for the 150. guess i should get working front shocks first eh?

I had my 88 SE speedo down by the H on MPH. I assume thats close to 160 to 170... Funny thing happened when I went this fast, the speedo cable shot outta the trans and was smacking the road and then the underside of the car, it was quite scary and loud..

Sounded like a broken diff mount that bangs went you don't shift...lol

Not to be an *** or anything, but modded FDs with 350rwhp are struggling to hit 170mph. In a N/A , even modded very heavily, Id say 150mph (give or take a few) would be the absolute max...

I hit 145mph in my 87 GXL, was a bit scary stopping (brake upgrade on the way) but made it there relatively easy.

What mods did you have? You do realize that speedos are inaccurate, especially at higher speeds. The top speed of a stock N/A FC is around 135MPH. Increasing a cars top speed is very difficult to do by a large amount. As I stated before, even FDs with 100 more HP than stock, are just hitting 170MPH, which is only around 7mph faster than stock...

How do I open my horsepower box...it has a strange type of screw in it, and it's impossible to drill or burn through? I've gotten into the torque box and the secret 2xtrapstons box, but that was it. I've got phillips, flathead, torx, AND hex key drivers but can't find one that works...any help? I'm tired of maxing out at 140 and I don't have money for 2 big bottles!

My speedo is off for sure, but i dont think its off by much. just had turbo II sec injectors, mild port, HKS air intake, straight pipe, and 3rd gen wheels (which dont help the speedo reading) at the time. And one long *** straight away.

I dont understand that either but there are a few of us(in augusta) that have seen the 150plus mark in our cars so its not unreachable with the approriate mods. I also dont think the stock speedo could be that off mph wise. -Gabe

I don't think it's off that far...max 5-7mph is my guess. Anything more is just plain ridiculous and cheaply made (unless you need work done to it).

Your top speed is 137, but there is no governor or speed limiter built into the ECU.

My stock J-spec 88 TII hits about 180Kph then you feel the power surge between 175-180. I take that as being a governer? anyone know how to disable this?

I'd suppose a ECU from here in the US should work...if not, then you can have your ECU programmed to remove the limit.
