T-78; suitable for track use?
T-78; suitable for track use?
Is the T-78 suitable for track use, or is it too finicky in the turns? This is probably out of the question, but how about a T-88? If not, then what?
I think that Rick Potter's car had a T78 on it when he won his class in the One Lap of America event last year. Of course, I think he won it before with stock turbos, but the last event had higher-HP cars in his class than previous years. A T78 should be fine for a track car.

Wouldn't a T04S be more suited to track use? From what I hear you can get just as much power with a less lag time, and a better price than the mitusbishi (greddy) T78.

If so, then why does anyone use a T78?

I do think if you have your heart set on the T78, to look into some similar turbo's (like the T04's) and see what you can get. Plus you can get more options if you have your own Turbo built. People can modify the T78 as well, but I would wait until it needs to be rebuilt, if it aint broke; why fix it?
I road race a 93 rx7 with the t78 . deciding on which turbo is more a question on how much boost you want to run. I was going to run 14 psi and the t78 is not efficient at this low boost. Its impressive at 20 psi. I wanted to run street gas and will probably get a t04s and modify the beautifull manifold to accept this turbo. and I think the t78 is laggy, no power until 4800 rpm and then the tires break loose.Thats a hard car to drive in the rain.
re Amemiya's re super-g car, the white one thats on the options rx7 special tape, it has a t-78 on it, and it holds the lap record at tskuba. i would think that if there was something better, that re Amemiya would use it, I think the quality is better, sometimes you get what you pay for.
