Welp i should begin putting her back together in about 2 weeks, and since im running a haltech im thinking of getting rid of the OMP. 1) one less thing to fail and 2) to prevent any carbon build up and have a nice clean engine. Problem is i drive it everyday So i was wondering is it worth the cost of having to fill up with 2 stroke? I dont mind putting some in when i fill up, im just wondering cost wise.

 

Many of us have been driving our daily drivers for a long time with exclusively premix, and I haven't heard any horror stories (yet)

 

I'm doing it.

Make sure you have 2 bottles in your hatch(one as a back up when you foget to get more).

I use the TC3W 2stroke.

I drive 64 miles a day too.
Generally a qrt will last me a whole week with my driving.

I bought 2 small qt bottles and now have one of the huge bottles which I use to refill the smaller ones.

That way I have premeasured amounts all set.(32ounces)

I've been premixing for the last 2 months and even drove out to california/Sevenstock.

 

Geez i'm incurring the extra cost of 2-stroke even WITH the OMP on. I use about 8oz per fill up, and i keep like 3 in my spare tire well. Its a bitch to fill up tho, cuz i got this little funnel and stuff.

 

i have been pre-mixing my daily driver for the past 2 years..it's not bad at all once you get used to it. I buy the 2 cycle by the gal, and fill up a bunch of 12oz bottles w/it. When i get to a 1/4 or so tank, i put in 12 gal of gas, and dump in one of the bottles..simple

 

I need roughly 20oz per fill up.

Your average 21 ounce water bottle serves perfectly,

I keep four around.

 

what ratio do you guys use?

biggest problem i've had is finding a nice funnel !! i'm using one i absolutely hate. where are you people getting your funnels???

in case its asked, i was told .75 - 1.0 ounce per gallon. a 16oz bottle is less than 2 dollars.

otherwise its not so bad. i'm still waiting for a caop to ask what i'm doing. is it illegal to premix? i would just make the case that oil is injected anyways, but i'm choosing a method that burns cleaner and is better for my engine (i dont actually know that it burns cleaner, but its good for the sake of arguement; i assume so because its made to burn).

as for funnel... 98 cent one at walmart. Long thin yellow funnel. A little messy but better than those screw on funnels that don't even reach the gas fill pipe.

 

I don't think I'll ever go premix, it is an AWESOME idea, and a far superior/reliable way to lubricate the engine, in no way am I saying its a bad idea... However it may not be a good idea on the account of 'one' thing

When you guys want to sell you car, and you get a buyer who's never had a seven but a shitload of cash, telling them that you HAVE to add 2 stroke oil at every fillup is gonna turn em off from buying.. most people buying cars don't want to have to do anything more than fill her up, and drive her.

But yea, I'll stick with my OMP, unless I plan to keep this car forever...

The next seven I get will be *mint*, I don't want any body damage or a shitty ineterior, I'll pay more, but it will be worth it. This will be my final seven that I'll have forever, then I'll be doin pre-mix

 

when ur OMP dies and ur car blows up, i'll laugh when i have a running car to sell =P

 

OMP's only die when you neglect them. If you properly maintain your car tal, then your not gonna have to worry about it blowing up....

how do you maintain your omp ??

for anyone using their omp, remember, scalliwag sells a set of stainless steel lines for $100 for the FC (i think he still does at least).

 

maintain??? omp??? HAH!!! actually i'm still running OMP while running 512:1 ratio of premix. Hell yeah walmart... i even buy my TC-W3 premix there. It's cheap and it works. ^_^

 

haha, i just got back from wally world (aka wal mart).
the maintaining of the omp was directed at blackplague. i was curious of how you avoid neglecting (maintaining) an OMP. because, well, i was on the same level as you (the "maintain??? omp??? HAH!!!" idea).
yea, i found the exact funnel i was looking for (though wish the head was a tad bigger) and bought 4 bottles of their $1.14 tcw3 certified 2 stroke. they had pennzoil, too, but i wasnt about to shell out an extra 70 cents per bottle !! heh, its certified, thats all i'ma worry about.

my car will be modded past the point to where IF i sell my car, i'm gonna make sure i sell it to a die hard rotary enthusiast like me. in no way would i want the next owner of my car to just "fill her up and drive her". and anyone else who premixes, i would assume that they would feel the same way as i do. if you won't take care of her the way I would then, there's no way in hell you're gonna be the next owner of my car.

 

They are $88 per set now, $68 per set for those who send me the ends from their OEM lines. I found a better deal on materials now. Making banjo fittings takes time so I would rather use old ends.
So save your broke OMP lines or at least the ends. I pay $10 per set (buying) or knock $20 off a set of lines.
So some of you guys could cash in if you have some laying around. I had a guy pay for a solid diff mount and a set of OMP lines with old line ends We were both happy as hell.

so, i got my $. I do care where my stuff goes and how its treated, but when it comes down to $, whether I get it or not, i plan to get it.

 

who the hell told you that? my omp died at 90k miles and the rest of the car was practically mint except for a nice dent from a hit and run. always meticulously maintained as well.

 

how do you tell if the omp is bust? I've got a nice oil buildup around it, but I also have a bad oil pump and/or seal that I'm dealing with right now. I might as well replace it too since I've got that whole area taken apart. I don't want to go premix cause I'd forget and kill my engine.

 

the ecu can tell if the omp is working correctly. if it's not then the ecu throws your car into limp mode, basically a fuel cut at low revs and you won't get any power at all. btw if this happens and you have ah S5, simply going premix wont fix it. you need another omp to hookup unless you go standalone or you will forever be in limp mode. i got one zip tied to my strut tower brace off to the side away from engine heat and vibration (heat + vibration = dead electronics). it just sits there doing nothing but the ecu sees it and doesn't throw me in limp mode.

 

The ECU in an S4 wont know if the OMP goes bad.

The units that the oil drips out of tends to clog in my experience.

IF you have a premix that is made for 100:1 mix ratios, you cant mix it 128:1 and have it still work like it was made to. I personally mix 100:1.

How do you tell if you OMP is busted? Simple, just check to make sure your car is using the correct amount of oil based on your driving. I've HEARD a quart per an oil change, but i"d look it up if I were you.
