Exclamation auto->manual tranny conversion!!!

any 3rd gens out there feel the need to get rid of that automatic?

NOT through PFS!!!

My friend in NC is starting to do some tranny conversions (starting with my '93)
I think either you can come with your own parts( I did ), or you can have him get everything that you need.....
And the best thing is that the cost is WAY BELOW PFS...period.

I'll keep everyone updated on the way mine is going...
Just reply back here..

Im about to convert my Auto into a manual, but its kinda hard to find a place that will touch my 7. I just found a local mechanic shop that said they will do it, but he cant give me a time on how long it will cost and its $58 a hour, so Im trying to find out as much info as i can atm. Send me an email at JSiv11@hotmail.com . I got some questions i'd like to ask ya.

Id be interested as well. Im planning on doing a swap in the next 6 months or so.

Tracking down all the parts is the hard part from what Ive heard. Most people who have done it say you can plan on it costing around $3-4k

Let us know how it goes.

Mine car is in the process as we speak. It really not the hard, unless you dont have the parts. It costs me about 3k so far for the swap. I ll post pics up very soon.

cool

cool. I'll keep everyone updated on my progress as well, plus I'll post the end result on the web, and all the info about the guy that's doing it. If you want it now, just ask.
And to all that are trying it themselves.... got the right counterweight?(hint)

You don't need to worry about the counter weight if you use a lightened flywheel. AFAIK.

Hi
I am hoping to get my 3rd gen converted to manual (its in the UK). I have been trying to get some good info on what exactly is needed and how to swap the parts. I was going to buy a totalled manual and use the car for the parts. Do you have any good info, or links to sites with info. Rx's are rare in the UK and the conversion has not been done here so no one has any knowledge. What will you be doing with the electrics and ECU? Will you replace the loom or wire into it?
Any info you can spare would be appreciated.
Thanks
Martin (sintler@lineone.net)

PS The email address doesn't seem to work!

Hmm... no CW?

Goblin-

Actually man, I think you're going to run into more of an issue w/ the counterweight w/ the lightened flywheel...you REALLY need it more w/ the lighter wheel, simply b/c your motor has to cope w/ the added ability to rev, but also has to still be able to slow down, i.e. the counterweight... most companies send a counterweight w/ their lightened flywheel... This is just my .02, and SR Motorsports .02, and Pettit Racing's .02. I don't know of anyone that uses a LFW w/o a counterweight, but I'm not saying it's not possible, but I don't recommend it. ( and neither do many other people...) Just lookin' out for ya!

I guess I worded that wrong. That's what I get for trying to be too brief... (g)

What I meant was, if you go with a lightweight flywheel, you save yourself the hassle of finding a stock manual counter weight (or paying too much to buy one from the dealer), and in the bargain, you're taking care of another mod you'd be doing down the road anyway.

Nothing really to report. I still think automatics are very capable, and tend to get looked down on by people who've never driven them, and my car was still a LOT of fun when it was an automatic. But...

Ok, well, fine... The car is SO MUCH MORE FUN with a manual transmission. There's nothing quite like gunning through 4th, coming up to a turn, downshifting through to second and engine braking through the entrance, and exploding out of the curve.

Highly recommended mod.

So you cant use the stock 5 speed flywheel in the auto to manual swap? You have to buy a lightweight flywheel and use the counterweight to have it work?

I also have a 5 speed main engine wiring harness that has one thing cut.. I dont know if i should splice that one or just buy a whole new one. =p Im picky i guess =/.. Or should I just splice the auto one to work with 5 speed.. Might just be better to fix the 5 speed harness i have already if possible?
