High Idle Fix?

My car has been idling high lately (about 2000 rpm). I was tinkering with the idle adjust, but every time I tapped the pedal to give it some gas, it went right back up to 2000 rpm. Well, I noticed that if I lifted the accelerator pedal from underneath, my idle would drop down to about 1000ish. Could my idle adjust be fine and just the spring on my pedal be going out, or do I just need to tinker some more (it's not impossible that I was adjusting the wrong thing, but no, I wasn't using the mixture adjust screw)

Thank You,

high idle is indicative of a vacuum leak.
Do you hear a hissing sound?

I don't think it's a vacuum leak, but you never know. I'm half tempted to buy about 500 ft of tubing and replacing all of the lines...take care of that problem!

Hey V8kilr...what's the story behind your seven sport club? Where abouts is St. Clair Shores?

I've been chasing a high-idle problem for a month since I got my car. Well, today might be your lucky day because I found the source of my problem and now my engine runs GREAT! It turned out to be a vacuum leak on a hose you can barely see down by the exhaust manifold. The part that fixed mine is the Anti-Afterburn Valve to Intake Manifold hose. You can get it from Mazdatrix. http://www.mazdatrix.com/c-5.htm

The hose looks like this:

If you poke at the base of that hose on your car, you might find that it's split wide open. Anyway, I hope this helps. Good luck!

innittab that is the exact hose that came loose on my two days ago; it made my car run like crap and no idle. You can barely see it the bottom end disappears underneath the back of the carb

The damn thing is notorious! I've seen all kinds of people posting this very same thing.

Note to anyone tossing their emissions: remember to plug the intake manifold inlet after ditching that hose, if you don't you won't have a running engine and will get upset! (guess how I know lol)

Maybe that's the problem on my car. It definetly sounds like there is a air leak somewhere as there is a hissing noise.
