Do we have a PORTING faqs?

Porting is such a common issue, I was wondering if there was a FAQ somewhere on this site to research it.

I'm interested in the descriptions between each type of port, how it affects the ability to add a turbo, costs, streetability, where, time, everything. I have searched for threads and found many, but none really clear and concise. Thought maybe we had it all down somewhere. I'll keep loooking/researching, but I just wanted to know if it was here somewhere already.

That site claims the 6port GSLSE is not worth porting to even street level but I have read on this site that it is worthwhile. Decisions, Decisions.

That's old school thinking. Technically a 4 port will make more HP than a 6 port. Usually a 6 port is ported and the actuators are removed, effectively making it a four port, then it's about the same HP level for both.

Personally,

I like a Streetported 6 port better with the actuators in place, and the 5 & 6 ports ported to hell. This is what I had in my Old SE, and it worked beautifully. I had bottom end torque up the *** (which the 4 ports don't have) and when the pedal dropped, the 5 & 6 ports opened up and screamed bloody murder.

It Ran extremely hard when I wanted it to, and extremely mild when in needed to be (traffic/cruisin). I believe it's the best combination for a daily driver besides a turbo.

But that's my 02 cents.

Is porting something you do to an engine you will not be adding a turbo to or is the engine ok with both? Obviously you could do both, but isn't porting geared towards NA setups in which engine block integrity is less of an issue? Is 200rwhp achievible with a Streetport 6 port reliably and any ideas if it will Smog in CA. Consider the ~200rwhp goal to be with a quality CA legal intake, cat, exhaust, and maybe a header if one can be found smogible. I think 250rwhp would be more desirable in order to get the 1hp/10lb ratio but I don't want to destroy my engine, I just want it to be somewhat more spirited than stock.

250+ RWHP would be a BP or a PP.
