Cleanest Engine Bay

I humbly submit mine. I don't know how to post pics. You'll need to copy and paste my weblink to Advanced Import Motorsports. I'm told it's the cleanest '93 Rx7 R1 engine bay around...

Yeah, it's all stock This is a running joke at the shop and at the track. Track junkies wanting to know what that red blur was that blew by them will ask what I've done to my car, and my response is that "it's all stock"

Thanks for the compliment. I've been spraying out the engine bay since day one, so I've just kept that up for 6 years.

Mine is a saily driver and this pic was taken at random not after it was cleaned. This is basically how it normally looks. I doubt it even close to the coolest looking but at least it STAYS clean

I'll try to attach a pic but I'm not sure if i know how......

Hey Manny,

what's your secret? Tell us how you (safely) clean your engine bay, please. My R1 is nice and shiny w/a dirty engine bay b/c I've heard horror stories about improper cleaning techniques.

I remember you from the big list back in the day. Good to see you on the forum.

I thought mine was nice until I saw some of these pictures. I'll put it up anyway. It also gives a good look at the Apexi Power Intake if anyone you know is interested.

i thought the apex intakes would be bigger than that, i see most of you removed you air pumps (?) (the thing next to the thermostat housing), is that because you have a mid pipe or can you just remove it and add new pullies? please educate me i'm a dumb *** trying to work on my car on my own. no offense to the real rotary mechanics, but i think it would be cool to work and learn my own car. it hink it will help me trouble shoot it in case of any emergiencies. (please don't flame, just help).

Thats a good looking bay. VERY clean, I entered mine in a show one time and used some stuff (cant remember the name) that made all the plastic look wet like that and man it loods good. The only prob was it seemed to make dust stick to it worse when I started driving so now I just clean it and dont use any stuff like that.....but it sure does look good.

BTW - That hole in your air duct prob makes a bigger difference than you think, I'd seal it up. Maybe buy a used air duct or battery cover and cut out a section to glue over the hole. With the stock IC you need as much air as possible.

Why would we flame you for asking a question???? Thats what the forum is here for!!!!

You need to have the midpipe to remove your airpump. If you still have the cat it will clog without the air pump. Other than the fact that it looks 100x better without the air pump it allows the turbo section to get some much needed air flow. I noticed a drop in under the hood temps when I removed the air pump because the turbos get some air to them now instead of being so closed it. You can actually see the primary turbo now!!!!!!

Thanks! Actually I heard about this stuff either from the RX7 forum or Rob Robinnette's page or something. It is called Castrol Super Clean Tire Gloss. I was worried that it would attract dirt like an oil based Armor All or something. But it actually dries in a non-oily way. It says it resists dirt, road grime, and dust on the bottle and it actually does. I sprayed some direct on a rag and wiped all the respective parts down.

I also did close the IC duct whole after reading some posts on hear as well. I too am pretty mechanically inclined but I really like this form to get answers or re-confirm what I already thought. This is a great forum.
