model? year?

Most of the time it is just removing all the screws, remove the door latch handle trim, then pop the plastic retaining clips, then slide the door panel up.

Yeah and be very careful taking the plastic clips off. You dont want to break those suckers. I think someone sells a special tool for removing them without breaking them. Not sure about that though.

1st take the screw out of the opening handle on the door; then pop off the mirror triangle; then the screw on the top right, bottom right, bottom left, bottom middle(usually hidden under the fuzzy carpet) and then the ones that hold the armrest handle on usually four of them; next go around panel and pop out the snaps that hold on the panel; finally slid panel up and voila--its off!! Next have a drink to celebrate!

youll need a special tool to release the latch on the window handle, if you dont have the tool you will need to get a screwdriver and try and find your way under it to puch the latch in so you can take it off so your door panel will come off to have access to your speaker

No special tool needed grab a rag slid it between the window handle and the plastic disc behind it pull side to side it will catch the clip and pop it off. it kinda looks like a "c" but bent out at te ends.

You don't have to pop the mirror panel on FCs with power mirrors, to remove the door panel.

What size are the speakers in the front of the doors? I think they are 6.5s right. I'm not sure if the door panels are different from year to year, but we are talking about the panel with the triangular shaped grill towards the front of the door right?

The dash speakers are like maybe 15 minutes a speaker for replacement (including amp re-wire).

It should not be a PITA.

Depends on the year and speaker.

Most of the speakers in the doors are 150mm which are true 6" speakers.

But note that many of the cheaper and asian brands tend to call a 6" speaker really a 6 1/2". MD quart, and JL are some of the few brands (that come to mind) that call a 6" a 6" and a 6 1/2 a 6 1/2".

True 6 1/2" however are the 170mm speakers.

If this is what you got, then you have the after minor change, aka S5 model. You can fit 5,25" right in or with somekind of spacer 6,5" without a problem. Note that there is often some kind of variations in 6,5", different brands are actually different sizes, so choose the smallest rather then the biggest 6,5" you can find....

4" to 5 1/4" change

hole is to small for 5 1/4 spks, unless you do some cutting and custom work. its easier to put 4"spks in.
i put 4" components in mine. The other way would be to put kick panel pods and put 6 1/2 comp's.
