FD Dash Speaker Size?

I've searched, but I can't seem to find the size for it. Has anyone replaced their dash speaker? What would you guys recommend?

It's not that difficult, I have the speaker in my hand. It appears to be about 2 3/4" dia w/ a square base. I've looked on crutchfield.com , but I can't find that size. Has anyone had any luck with another size? Thanks.

Are you smoking crack?

I easily removed my center speaker in less than a minute.....

HDP: It's funny because Crutchfield used to carry replacements for the center-channel speaker. It looks like Pioneer might have stopped making the replacement size...

its a center channel so it gets routed high mids and highs, 800hz~5000hz.

well, we all have enough mids, so i replaced mine with one really powerfull kicker tweeter, 150 rms-300 max. and the stereo sounds great. try that.

What size is the Pioneer? Crutchfield does have one that's 3 1/2" (TS A878).

3 1/2s are crap. Youd be better off getting a tweeter like someone suggested...But even better just leave it alone. You dont need a speaker in the center for good imaging.

why dont u get a better set of speakers for the rear and use the center channel speaker housing for your tweeters? i think panasonic radios work with a center channel speaker if you really want one. some radios now code for dolby but they are more expensive.

Ok everyone, I measured the damn thing....

The speaker mount is 2-3/4" square. The diagonal mounting hole distance is 3-1/8". The actual driver is about 2-1/4" diameter. Hope that helps.

I measured it when I first took it out. What I want to know is, who makes a replacement that size?

I searched around for a little while and couldn't find any of the big manfs making that speaker size anymore. Pioneer used to make a drop-in for that location but doesn't anymore.

Yep. I have a Vifa component set up front, nothing in the rear and a 10" sub in the hatch. All you need.

Today I found the closest thing to an aftermarket replacement
http://www.simplyspeakers.com/14replacements.htm
near the bottom... full range 8 ohm Sony 2.75". Not sure how well it will work since the original is 4 ohms.

It won't play loud enough compared to the left and right. No sense in using that one IMO.

Don,

I thought you had an aftermarket headunit? Most of the head units don't use center speaker. The new high end headunits do.. but still not worth it since most of the musics are 2x2 and especially downloaded music. Only time I could see being useful would be surround sound for playing movies in your car or dvd music. But with the noise most FD's make and most people can't tell the difference between $200 system vs. $5000, its kind of pointless.

^ The center channel amp in the FD sums the speaker level outputs of the left and right channels together to get a mono signal. To make it continue to function in any aftermarket system all you have to do is connect the speaker wires of the left and right speakers back to the factory harness in the center console. The center channel amp will once again sum these signals and play them through the center speaker.

get some 6 1/2" shallow mount component speakers and put them in the door. You will need to make some serious spacers, but it will sound much better.
