Opinion on HKS SSQV BOV

Who has this bov and how do you like it? How's it doing with the stock application as well as FMIC? Sound clips?

I dont have a sound clip but it sounded nice on my previous car (a GSX.) When I finish my swap I am going to put it on my rex. If you search HKS SSQV you will get a sound clip from different cars. Its only a blowoff valve so it will(should) sound the same on every car b/c its just escaping air making the sound.

I have it, it's really annoying, but it moves lots of air in a hurry, which is good for the turbo, so I live with it.

No shrill, just whistle. That's GReddy. Personally I love teh sneeze, so I'll have to go with the Type RS. Even though the Type S sounds kinda slow.

To some, anytype blow off valve is annoying to hear. But me, I just love the sound. I dont have a sound system in my rex, so I just listen to the engine rev, the turbo spool, and the blowoff valve between shifts. Thats just me. I love the way my car sounds overall (3" exhaust w/ a HKS Hipower muffler and 1 really long resonator off a dodge truck.) Nice and deep tone exhuast w/ a nice high pitch sound from the turbo. I can make love to my girl from the sounds of my car. lol, j/k...

Whatever you do do not have your ear directly in front of the bov when it lets loose at a high psi.

My car was on a dyno and we were doing a pull. I wasn't paying attention, I was about 30 feet in front of the car and facing away from the car and the bov in the stock location was basically pointing right at my ear from 30 feet away. 16 psi blew out and it scared me so bad I jumped, it was really ******* loud.

On the road though its nowhere near as loud with the hood closed and pointed away.

It sounds very obnoxious, in my opinion. Too high pitch.

Every SR20 swapped 240SX in Richmond runs one. It got really old, fast.

I have an old style Blitz waiting to go on my car.

Anyone seen on the hksusa.com site about the inserts for the SSQV bov? You can put an insert in it that lowers the noise of the blow off so it's not so quite a whistle. http://www.hksusa.com/products/?id=796

Never tried the inserts. I like it b/c inside the car its not too loud (compared to the exhaust at least.) The only problem is that it is an attention grabber (like any other blow off valve isnt though? They are all loud to me.) For instance. When I drive to work (I work for a huge computer company) I always like to try and hit boost while I'm in the parking lot just so it can blow-off. Its funny b/c the security guard comes out and yells at me everyday telling me that my car is too loud and everyone is mystified that my "old skewl" rx7 is so quick. Its funny. I cant wait till I finish my swap... then they will really see fast. AJ (a dude w/ a "highly" modded 5.0 that works with me) man, I'm comin for you.

Now in days everybody does have the hks, but in my opinion it's probably the best one out. All the other types of blowoff valves sound the same, like a simple release of air. I use my SSQ without an insert, it sound pretty cool. It doesnt only sound like a release of air, but more of a high pitch. Especially at higher boost.
