Shakken costs

Hey guys, my shakken is due later this year in August. Im actually hoping to export the car back before this time but i will be cutting it fine. I might not be able to export in time and it might need shakken.

My car has done 69,000kms and is pretty clean in and out. Ive got no oil leaks and the car has been serviced every 1000kms with mazda. What sorts of things do i need to replace and what sorts of things do they look for?

Ive been told i can do the Shakken work myself, is this true?

How strict are the emission tests?

How much roughly do you think it will cost?

thanks

William

Check out this post, it is very detailed and explains how to do it yourself, what to check for, and forms you need.

Thats an extremely helpful thread, thanks heaps for that find. Im wondering now what you guys paid in recent times for your FDs or FCs? What problems am i likely to encounter?

Ive got a good mechanic friend who i bought that car with who might help me do it myself and maybe take it there for me.

i was going to try gaijinpot but i find there maturity of replies to threads pretty childish on that forum.

I f you still have the air pump, emitions will be no problem.

Get the headlights aligned first, they always check that,

put in your silencer in the exhaust

thats about it.

If you have aftermarket exhaust , it must have the JASMA badges with cert number clearly visible.

Mine went straight through... before the widebody conversion of course.

I dont think you will have a problem.

Raise the car if you can so it looks high also.

my car is pretty stock, stock suspension, the kit just makes it a bit lower.

Ive got an aftermarket exhaust, i havent really checked what brand (i dont think its a famous brand) it is or if ive got a cat, i assume i do. Where are the JASMA badges located usually, do these just look like normal badges on the side of the muffler?

And the price???

Was about 80000 last time

Exhaust usually has a small plate riveted on the bottom.

If only the rear exhaust has changed. you should be ok.
Original cat is elongated octagonal beast.

If you will not be needing shakken for very long then i suggest just getting kaeri #'s for the last few days or weeks that you will have the car before shipping it out. Kaeri #'s cost about 7000 yen and can be used for multiple days. if you do not take them back on time there is no penalty or fine hahaha. So figure about 7000 yen for 4 days or so of driving.

Oh I should ad that this is not the best approach to avoid shakken but for a weekend car or once in awhile use car this can be much more practical than getting shakken and you dont have to do any work on your car hahaha.

Gotta be careful though.

Private imports to Australia check everything.

If its not registered for over 12 months and all those other things it is a pain in the ****.

Russ.

The car will have been registered, paid insurance, paid parking, everything easily before my shakken, i even paid for some damage while it was parked because some dork backed into it. Its just im worried the customs might have an issue that i didnt drive the car for the first 2 or so months because i didnt have a license They might just add 3 months on to my ownership so ive been told, that is if they do have an issue. I just couldnt get the time of work to get my license as the license place isnt open on weekends...
