Question about Shaken Inspection
I was wondering if someone would be able to help me out. I am looking at purchasing a car from a Japan auction and getting it shipped to Canada. The one website that I am thinking about purchasing through tells me what the Shaken legal inspections results were. The car that I am interested had a 19.03 in that test. Would someone be able to give me more information on this?
Thank you very much.
Thank you very much.

I have already had this questions answered in a e-mail. The 19.03 I guess is the date of when the car needs to be re-inspected and has no bearing on the condition of the car. Mods can feel free to lock/delete this thread.

yeah, 19/03 is the year heisei 19, (2007) and the 03 or 3 is march
so the car has 3-4 months of shaken left on it
this is very important as it means the car can be taken for a test drive and if bought can be driven home
cars bought without shaken can't be test driven or driven home without paperwork to buy short term insurance and rent "dealer" plates with a red slash through them
people normally sell cars here just before they have to do the next shaken test to avoid the costs
cars are sometimes advertised with 2 years shaken, this means the car has no shaken but if you buy it, (without a test drive) they will do the shaken test for you
BUT, they will charge you for the test and any work that needs to be done to get the car to shaken standard. paperwork and labour for a dealer to do an rx7 without any problems is probably about $2,000?
like any country many dealers have access to shonky garages that are allowed to perform shaken tests. they will pass substandard cars for basically a bribe.
so you might try to haggle a dealer down on a car and he'll offer to throw in the shaken for a fixed cheap price. when you get the car it's already to roll on the road but may have an exhaust that has as many holes as swiss cheese....all the cars faults happened apparently the day after the test....

also when you buy a used car in japan the amount of unused shaken is calculated and added to advertised price of the car. 4 months on an rx7 is worth about an extra $200?

wow lots of talk about shokan, needless to say for the car to be shipped to you it must be DEREGISTERED! so it doesnt matter how much shokan it has or had. It only would matter if you were coming to live here.
