Might be requesting being posted in Pacific

Specially mainland Japan or Okinawa. I joined the air force and am leaving in April for basic / tech school. So by September ill be moving somewhere. My wife and I have talked it over and we think that maybe going internationally while we are young would be best.

But what im curious about is should i put in for Okinawa or mainland Japan? I have heard that generally US servicemen aren't generally liked (even if your going to Mazda meet). So i am curious as how how bad the shunning can be or if its something that can be reverted over time with gaining respect. How is general life paced there, etc. Basically anything i could know would be great.

Also, what can my wife do for work over there?

And yes i do plan on trying to learn the language.

you wont be shunned. you might get a few looks if you travel to the country side where they are not used to seeing americans but in tokyo no one really cares. good luck getting a job on base its pretty much a standard requirement to where you have to be a philipino to get a good job. Its sad when aafes got in trouble for not hiring non philipino.

also if the military brings my FB out for me (especially if im on an extend tour), what needs down to drive it? is there something special for military to make things easier? I hardly get the BMV stateside. I dont think a foreign country and a language i wont fully grasp with an car from out side space will be a pain.

The job thing is easy because AAFES/MCCS/MWR/18th SVC love to hire dependents who already have SOFA status.

As long as your FB can pass emissions and noise levels you shouldn't have any problems but they do check a lot of stuff during the inspection. The countryside people are actually nicer than most of the concrete jungle dwellers.

yeah you will need to fill out a butt load of paperwork for the cars initial inspection, If you get stationed at Yokota (mainland Japan) then its easy as the Gas Inspection and Weight Inspection offices are right next to the base. not usre for Oki (kadena) but its probably down at naha at the Main LTO there. Misawa (northern Japan) I have not a clue on as have never been stationed there.

as far as your wife getting a job on the base it depends upon her skill set, and what she wants for pay. there is always the possibility of teaching "engrish" on the side pays well for a part time job.
