Japan luggage express

Just wondering if anyone has had an experience with Japan Luggage Express? Seems like a good option for items too big for EMS.

If you have tried it, please post your experiences.

thanks,

this is what I found.

http://www.jluggage.com/

Minimum weight for a air shipment is 45kg which means the cheapest air shipment will cost close to $400 with the current yen - dollar rates.

This is very expensive in my opinion. They do not list the ocean freight prices but I assume they are not all that great also.

Update

Tom,

I have an update on how they come up with their prices. I was trying to ship a large, but not heavy box. Since my box was large (120cm X 60cm X 85cm), they take those measurements and divide by 6000 and come up with volumetric weight. So, my box equaled 102kg.

102 X 950 per kilo = 96900
customs clearance = 5900
102 X 130 pickup fee = 13260
.015 X declared value = 5400

TOTAL 121460 / 80 yen = $1518.25

And they will only ship as far as a major airport, so no home delivery. Pickup is free in Tokyo's 23 wards, as long as the box can be picked up by one person.

There are better cheaper ways to ship however a lot of them require loading docks, forklifts, and pallet packing. For your listed measurements I would think it would be cheaper to just buy a round trip flight and take it back as your luggage. You can pay the oversize baggage fee if they ask you to. See my post about this below in the far east section
