After getting tired of running my Superflow 110 at lower depressions in order to measure bigger stuff I decided to build a big bench. This new one should flow over 600cfm at 28" and it will be totally computerized. The SF 110 is rated at 185cfm but depending on power supply etc. it would pull about 170-175@15". In other words the new one will be a monster.

The cabinet is all 3/4"mdf, fully bisquit joined and glued(no screws). It will have 8 vacuum motors and be able to flow intake and exhaust directions. The top is probably going to end up covered with a stainless steel plate in order to hold some bigger stuff someday. I might want to work on my Cummins 24V head sometime... The cabinet is going to be covered with Formica laminate, i have a sheet of white left from an apartment remodel, so white it is!

The big holes just allow access to two of the compartments on the left side of the bench. The top one to be able to change the orifice plate for different flow rates and the bottom one in case something gets passed the 'event horizon' and gets sucked into the bench. On the right side you can see where a few of the motors will mount.

Laminate is next, then the electrical box. This thing will need just under 50 amps to run! I can't wait to see the power meter spin when this thing gets fired up.

 

Nice. I've always wanted a small flow bench to play with, but haven't had the motivation to figure out the software side of things.

 

Can you post a BOM (bill of materials)? I'm interested in seeing what it takes to make one of these. Also, do you have like a simple diagram describing the operation of the specific one you made?

Only the newest benches are fully electronic. Its about a $1K option on most Superflow models. The standard gauges are oil filled tubes even on the benches that cost over $7K.

 

I would if I had the money, my eprod build is killing me lol. Since I study fluid flow I am interested in how these things measure flow.
