Ramstien RX7 owners

Saw a few of you posted last year but nothing too new. Did anyone bring thier RX7 with them to Germany? If so was it moddified? If so how hard was it to get it through the inspection? I'll bring my car even if I have to keep it as "Race only" but would prefer to drive to Nuernberg as apposed to towing it there. Thanks, Travis

As long as the car is not too loud, not leaking oil and all lights and horn work it will pass inspection. Just be patient and don't bug the guy at the inspection place too much. I have a Bridgeported Opel and it passed inspection. And that was a swap in. Just bring the car and give it a shot. The worst thing that can happen is that you will have to register it as a race car.

mine passed no problem.

Mainly they are looking for leaks, working lights, working brakes, and no exhust leaks. Other than that just about anything goes.
Are you PCSing to Ramstein?

Yes, but the car has a 4 inch open exhaust all the way from the turbo back. I'll have to get a baffle or something put on temporarily. How about windshield wipers? I took mine off but it shouldn't be a big deal to get some put on. Do they visually inspect for catalytic covertors? It won't have a working fuel gage either (fuel cell instaled) but I'll just fix it permenately on 1/4 full if needed. I'm going to try and get it through no matter what but I want to do what I can to help the process. I'm sure I could rig something up to look like a cat if needed. Also, anybody know if you have to have the vehicle paid off to bring it over (they said in the literature you have to have the title, but my state is a title holding state)? Thanks for all the help so far guys.
To answer the previous question, yes I'm PCSing there in Feb.

Yeah, I'm coming over to fly C130s. I'll try and track the other 7 owners down once I get settled in over there. I need to find a good place to rent with a garage for 1200-1500 euro. I'm told it won't be a problem. Everyone I know over there says its a good time. Hopefully they all enjoy going to Nuermberg (I definately can't wait to try it out). Travis

I actually wouldn't rent anything but a house/townhome with a garage. Once I get closer to moving I'll start checking it out closely. Right now I'm just concentrating on the language and the driving test.

If you fill the C130 up with Rotary parts finding a garage or home won't be any trouble

Holly smokes, are those all rx7s you've owned you have listed in your sig? I only know one guy who's owned that many rotaries. I'm sure I'll be going back and forth to the states. I might be able to bring a hard to find part back once in a while. I've got good parts sources here but plan on having all the work done before I get the car to Ramstien. Its almost done but will still need a paint job after I pick it up. I was going to wait but don't want the inspectors thinking I have a junker I'm trying to bring in. Once the paints done the entire car (minus interior) will have been rebuilt.

LOL, as far as the driving test is concerned.....a retarded monkey could pass it. Although I have gotten my drivers licence here and in Japan before, it's really not that hard to pass. I went to the online manual and did a quick run through of the sample test they have, then had to wait for like 4 or 5 days before I actually took the test and I still got a 94 on it. My only tip here is to spend a little time with the signs if your not familar with the european road signs. Most of the other stuff is just common sence. Also, a C130 full of rotary parts would be the coolest thing ever!!!!!! I need a front right fender for a '89 turbo II please thank you!!!

Hey passing the inspections is easy, if you have a hard time passing just wait for the first wednsday of the month inspection. i could ask to work those late dates. we open late until 11pm on those days. i work night shift so it would be natural to have the night guys to cover those late hours. i've done those night inspection in the past and since our shop nco is a good friend of mine it wont be hard to schedule a date. come by around 9-11 pm ill stamp that badboy and we can go for a test drive on some roads i know off base. I've got a hinson FD waiting to be converted right now and rebuilding my junk JDM FD. by the time u come i hope both will be running. Will be interesting to see how you ace pilots operate on the road . besides rebuilding our rx7 we e-4 airmens go out the to nurburgring also. its about an hour drive, i bet you cant wait to take ur fd up there. i've driven on the course about 30times and been a passenger around 40 times, and only 2 spin outs. so i got 70 laps under my belt . i know the course pretty well and can tell you where the hard sections are. I was up there on the 15th of april in a rental A class merc. all the good cars were already reserved for that weeken, but i still managed to make my coworker to puke in the back seats =). he didnt expect to hit so many Gs and we got it all on tape. Anyway Welcome to Ramstein AB. When ever you arent flying i hope ur 7 is driving. <-- ahh sweet thats a pimp line.

Oh yeah would you be interested in a Steve kan tuning event also?

Hey i have a question, i just notice that you are in texas right now. Are u by arlington, tx by any chance? the 7 that is waiting on the ls1 is sitting is there right now. it has a bad coolant seal leak and smokes. the tmo guys wont accept it. a friend is helping me with the hinson deal. If you are close enough and have time, i was hoping you could go check it out for me. i had him add some coolant stop leak junk and now it wont start. it was hard start before, but my friend is clueless when it comes to vehicles. so i cant be sure if its the car or him. if you could or cant thanks anyway

I'm in Corpus Christi TX. Arlington is quite a ways away. I would go up and check it out but I'm leaving for SOS next month and almost immediately afterwards I'm moving to Little Rock for Requal school. I'll see what I can do about flying the mighty T44 up there for a few hours if you run into a brick wall. We don't normally get to go that far for local trainers but I have a all day flight coming up I could probably get to the area. It would be the middle of the day and I'd need to make sure it was close to the airfield (30 min) and accessable. Probably not worth it as without my tools I couldn't do too much. If the coolant is leaking it could be a few things. Does it turn over? Has he checked the battery and the simple stuff (fouled plugs, ignition, etc..)? I would suspect the plugs and ignition right off the bat. Even with a blown coolant seal it should start unless coolant is just pouring into the housing.

About the inspection, I'm kind of confused. I thought some German at the port where we pick them up does the inspection? Is there more than one inspection? Sounds like there is one when I pick it up and one when I get it tagged by the base. If I need to have it tagged on base I'll definately look you up before I get it done. I don't really need it to go onto base except when I'm working on it (I assume somewhere on base is a auto hobby shop). This car is definately not my daily driver so I'm not to worried about getting hit by a over zealous cop. I'll trailer it to the Ring.

I'll definately make sure the first time I go to the Ring I go with someone who's been there before. Does anyone in the area sell race gas (103 Octane and up is what I like to use)? If not I'll just add the Tolulene myself but its kind of a inexact science so I like to buy high octane gas instead.

Thanks again for all the advice, looking forward to meeting all the local rotor heads.

Travis

Yeah i bought Joshs car... No mention of having to give up mufflers from him though. Odd... Anyway im tring to get a RB Y pipe and get some Magnaflow mufflers anyway. So if you can hold off a bit ill be able to give them to you instead of junkin them.

hercdriver - There will be 2 inspections. One at the port where you ship your car, And 2 when it is delivered to Kapone Airstation for you pick up. And i wouldnt worry or go threw what AF1 said, although us VRS boys will take care of you if nessisary. Just go pick your car up and get it inspected. The worst that can happen is the fail you and give you temp plates.

The ones I mean are the ones with the big tips....they are pretty much new (less than 1 year old) so def not junk. I will be happy to forward you the emails regarding the mufflers that etween me and Josh. He even gave me your phone number but I have not had the chance to call you. Sorry that he did not inform you that they were not his...
However, this does not change the fact that I am still willing to help other 7 drivers out once in a while...how much longer will you need them?

Hey man let me know when you are getting your Racing Beat stuff so we can order together. I am trying to get some 2 inch straight tubing, a pre built collector and a presilencer. We can split the shipping if it makes it cheaper.

0176-249-39936 call me. And if you already did then try, try again. lol.
