any miltary guys

if there are any miltary guys in europe i would like to know if any of you know of or has taken a car with you from your last base. i live in okinawa japan and will be moving to europe. i used to own a SKYLINE GT-R but sold it to some guy that moved to germany and he took it with him. ive been reading that german law is actually really tough which makes it difficult to have something fast in the contry. i have an FC with a 20b conversion and want to bring it with me but from what i read it my not happen. anyone got some info

as long as you can pass US emissions test, you can PCS your car. You will be registering your car with US plates, so yes you can. I took my FC to Germany without problems. If the car was registered once in the US and you PCS it to Japan, you can also relocate it to Germany. Unless you brought it in Japan with Jap specs and cant register it under US specs, then you will have a tuff time.

were i am going is actually up in the air rite now, but my overseas window opens up in november and my enlistment is up next august ( if you are military then you mite know what i am talking about.) anyway europe is a possibility for me anywere from U.K to Italy so im just trying to find out what the rules are in U.K Germany, and maybe Italy. a lot of people have told me about miltary guys bringing over skylines to the U.K and germany and someone actually bought my GT-R and took it to germany but i dont know what happened after that. i have gotten some responses but it sounds like most guys took there cars over from the states not another country. i wont be leaving japan until next year but things like this need to be researched and thought about before they happen, so if anyone has any info please do tell.

you say that if my car is registered in the U.S then its all good for the most part. but what if my car is registered in a state that dosnt do emmisions like florida......my first gen will never ever pass but its is registered and insured in the states....

I'm stationed in the UK right now. Honestly you don't need your (US Spec) car to have a current inspection sticker to ship it. Mine expired about 2 months before I shipped it (flew home for the weekend to ship my car). I don't know about other countries, but JDM vehicles are NOT a problem to have in the UK. I see a good deal of Japanese Skylines and Supras driving around (ok, not a LOT, but they are fairly common).

Is your FC US spec, or Japanese? I do not know the rules regarding having Uncle Sam ship your car if it is not American. However so long as you can pass your MOT you will be able to drive any car in England. (regardless of country of origin, your FC will only need to pass a 3.5% CO emissions and 1400 HC test (if that) when it comes to the sniffer) I am in the middle of getting my FD MOT'd right now.. always fun, lol. (blew 5.5% of the acceptable 3.5% on tuesday = Fail)

A 3.5% CO emissions and 1400 HC test with an FC? That may be a chore, I have the air pump is still on :-)

Im guessing you AF, Well I just left Ramstein(tad) and you will see alot of the JDM cars runninng around. Now if I had the choice of were to go between italy London or Germany I would have to pick Germany. Hell if you like to drive theres no better place. I have a few friend in Naples and their telling me that it can take 3 hour to go 30K (screw that) California is not even that bad. In the Navy had a duty station in Ramstein I would take it. Athough Im waiting for Stugart. Oh and the COLA is good.

Osky,

You will have no problems with your RX. As military you won't have to pass emissions testing. We are exempt. The only thing you will have to pass is that the exhaust isn't over 90 Db loud. Just ensure the car is physically strong enough to pass a visual inspection i.e. no leaks or broken parts that hang, or cracks in fenders. Any of these will cause you to fail inspection. But that's about it.

That's all Kyrian, I was a little worried there for a moment. If all i really have to pass is the visual inspection and below 90 db. I should have no problem thanks for the info.

Germany isn't that much of problem for either Japanese or US cars.

There are several companies importing cars straight from Japan.
like this one.

Hey guys, I used to be stationed at Ramstei and one of my best friends had a silver FD. His name was Levanh but everyone called hi Junne. We used to hang out with someone else named Yan Voskanov. I am out of the military now and can no longer search for their emails on global. If anyone could help me track them down and get in touch with them I would be very grateful. Thanks.

Oh, and one of my life's great joys was to drive Junne's FD on the Nurburgring. I had an E34 M5 and we used to go to the ring all the time. If you haven't been, you need to go this summer. Thanks! -Ben
