7s Day/Mazda Day 2014
Hi all,
as some of you may know, last year was the first National 7s Day meeting held in Ireland. It was a pretty basic event, but good for a first time and most importantly, great fun. This year, we've added a few dimensions, including karting and additional competitions, as well as camping, food, drink and entertainment.
Once again, Mazda Ireland are kindly supporting the event, with funding & prizes.
We will have a convoy drive around Lough Derg on the Saturday, departing from Killimor Heritage Centre at 12 noon. Plenty of great driving roads, amazing scenery and plenty places to stop for refreshments en route.
That evening, back to Killimor, where we'll have a variety of entertainment, kindly hosted by a fellow IrishRotary member, KittyK, with secure parking for all attendees and a place to camp for the night. Following day, karting Super GP at Pallas Karting, Europes largest karting centre.
Track and all facilities booked out for the day, just for us. The large circuit, with the more powerful karts.
We will have show and shine competitions, plenty of categories to compete in too.
Pallas are going to organise the food and drinks, with people paying for what they eat, most fair way to do it I think.
If you have the appetite of a mouse, you'll pay a lot less than a savage, e.g, me.
As for the karting:
Kicks off at 10.30am.
We are having a giant Grand Prix, catering for up to 120 drivers on the day, first come, first served, so get your name down now.
To start with, we will have practice sessions for all.
After this, the first wave of heats, with drivers awarded points based on finishing position.
Second wave of heats, with fastest drivers from first heat moved to back of grid for heat 2. Points awarded once again.
High point scorers will be moved on to semi finals and from there to final.
Nobody will drive the same kart twice, so it'll be as fair as possible.
Karts with any issues in practice will be fixed or swapped out, we'll get the best performing karts they have.
In short, based on 120 people, we will have approximately 7hours of karting!!
And the cost...... just €35 a head.
I think that is a fantastic price.
You'll be told at the start what time your heat will be at, so you can be enjoying the cars on show, chatting other rotorheads, sitting back having a drink or just chilling.
Heats can be annouced over the PA, so you'll be told when you need to suit up again.
There will be trophies for the top three drivers and champagne for the overall winner.
We are looking for sponsors, so any business who would like to sell or advertise on the day are most welcome, in return for a small token prize or perhaps something to include in the goodie bags for attendees.
There were a few people along from the UK last year, and it was great to have you guys there, with some amazing cars. A couple of cars were brought by trailer as they weren't ready, thats dedication and fabulous machines they were too.
There will be a number of media representatives there on the day, so the event will get coverage in a variety of mags as well as online.
So, add your name if you'd like to attend, and mention whether or not you want to camp.
BTW, this event is open to ALL Mazda vehicles.
