2000 model year RX7
Guys,
I am new to this forum and just saw a 2000 RX7 for sale with 16000 miles and a daddy DTM spoiler. Can I know what's the difference between the 99+ RX7s compared to the earlier models and has there been any improvement in stock reliability? Thanks
Nick

I happen to have read an article about this yesterday. It said: Mazda had the 280hp as target for the last revision of the Rx-7 (280hp is an unwritten max agreed among Japanese car constructors). They managed to reach the target by means of a new turbocharger and new engine management system (32bit). They kept the same short engine and focussed on reliability by improving cooling. IIRC, the 1998 and up Rx-7 breathes 70% better than the older FD3S.

280HP instead of 250HP (in Japan only, remember ?), different intake tubing, IC tubing and I/C, I *think* bigger/better radiator, slightly imporoved brakes, better ECU (far better), and various aesthetic changes in interior and exterior.
Still think that the SpiritR is BY FAR the vest FD even created

Finding these items though, that will be difficult. Unless you can get a whole FD from Japan, in which case you might as well import the whole thing anyway

importing parts will be cheaper than buy a newish 99 fd ? wouldn't it hehe an besides all that money for a stock fd... hmm i rather spend it on modifying better than stock but that 32bit computer sounds nice hehe

Also 99spec has enlarged turbos and the boost pattern is 12-10-12 instead of 10-8-10. Thats the difference on poer i believe. The JDM also i read somewhere they do not have a pre-cat,they have an upgraded Y-pipe.

New front bumper & lip. Not bigger, but better turbos. Efini y-pipe. Better engine internal cooling. No precat.
Yes, you can convert any FD to SpiritR like. It just costs money.

Fit it right in?
If one did get an imported turbocharger off a 98,
would it fit "plug-to-plug" into a 93,
or would some modifications be needed for fit, function, and control?

The difference between 99 onwards spec and the older ones are the following.
the exhaust system had 10% less back pressure mainly because of the back box.
the turbos are smaller for better response not bigger, also the turbos have better seals. Boost is up on the ecu to 12 psi and intake breathing improved by a larger opening in front end, water temp are supposedly slightly better with different fans on the radiator. As far as performance is concerned these we're the main changes.
