Throttle by wire and the future of EMS?

Looks like most new performance cars these days are equiped with electronic throttles (ie. RX8, 350Z). This is another parameter controlled by the factory ecu but I don't think there is any aftermarket EMS that will do this. What are your thoughts or knowledge on this?

It sounds like a lot of maintenance involving expensive parts. The advantages are light weight, and the ability of a computer to process the user input before making changes to the system.

I'm sure that aftermarket EMS products will follow this technology. Don't hold your breath, though, as some of them just made the jump from DOS to Windows in the last few months.

BTW, fly-by-wire is already old school in aviation. Fly-by-light is the way to go.

i think they are using a motec on the star mazda renisis motors, and they are fly by wire, although having seen automotive fly by wire setups (88-current bmw 750il's) i'll stick with a cable, they actually work and are under $1000 to fix

Fly by wire isn't hard to control (basically the same as a stepper motor. You can ALREADY do this in the AEM. There are user defined control tables, and you can quite easily set one up for TPS input and vary the output to the motor on the throttle body. I already know of one Supra guy using the factory traction control butterfly (it is fly by wire) to run the throttle on his car. Cool stuff!
